WOW! after finally having some free time i went ahead and pulled all the boxes and parts out of the interior, and EVERYTHING is in there, center caps, trip, upholstery, and even new VOLVO parts like oil and water pump, clutch and flywheel kit and a bunch of misc gaskets, this was the perfect car to restore! second realization was "how the heck am i gonna figure out where all this stuff goes....." then a few boxes later, BAM a haynes repair manual, well that solves the problem, check out the link in the above post for pics, i need to take some outside this weekend when i move it to the other garage, but i am VERY happy with the car and cant wait to start work on it

thanks!
update": the car is a wiring nightmare, its honestly going to be easier to swap engines from something else, although it would have been easy to just turbo the existing engine, i just dont ever see me figuring this out, theres wires hanging everywhere and they pretty much all have the same generic connector, even under the dash and fuse box has generic hardware style connectors.... and that v8 will most likely not fit with a manual trans and thats no fun =( plans as of right now is to find a volvo b230 turbo engine: 4cyl rwd and has been swapped many times, and if i cant seem to find that, then maybe a 2.3 turbo ford motor from a thunderbird or something. i plan on just buying a complete parts car, pulling the ENTIRE harness and engine/trans and swapping it over, ill probably end up putting autometer gauges in anyways since the oem dash has perfect 5 inch and 2 in gauges already, ill post some pictures tomorrow of this wiring disaster, but a swap will be a little cooler and easier to find parts for, plus i've heard those volvo motors can make some decent power, but i would probably just turn the boost up or something, gonna hit the junk yard later this week and see what i can find, i think the key to keeping this project alive is keeping up steady progress so i dont loose intrest, should be fun |

I might be able to get you a merkur xr4ti with full built 2.3 turbo motor custom tubular header custom 1500$ sheet metal intake manifold(im sure you know there's really no really good off the shelf ones) built head forged pistons cosworth parts, If i get the car im going to strip the suspension, body parts such as body kit hatch hood but not doors ,and some interior and wheels since its all imported cosworth stuff and the reason im hoping to buy it. I did semi want the motor but id sell the rest off the shell and interior(wiring untouched) add turbo and ic of your choice and go the engine i believe has a couple hundred miles since a full rebuild all forged and could handle 400hp+ the block is the weakest link and manifold will flow as much air as you can throw at it its a masterpiece lol.
the kid is keeping the turbo and ic or id include it. Make an offer ill know for sure if im getting it in a few days. would a small block Chevy or 4.3 v6 fit? or Ford 289 v8 fit?( it would be cool with a vintage Paxton dual sc optional back in the day on shelbys a guy sells restored dual and single Paxton/shelby kits on eBay or else Webber mechanical fuel injection) By the way this is sick what's a running driver worth?

Who ever said the 2.3 is crazy expensive ;) pm me a number I have no use for it I just want the cosworth coilovers, body parts, suspension parts, wheels and interior pieces I would get more outta the coilovers then the complete car is worth if it were stock =P

well part of my reason for going with the volvo engine is that i can use a t5 mustang trans and the the cars entire wiring harness. my wiring is shot so i need to transplant everything to make this work

got the engine today! turbo manifold and all, either have to go back for wiring or buy a donor car to strip at my own time, but we'll see, 150$ good compression from what i could tell spinning it over, pics as soon as the rain goes away and i can get it out from under the bed cover
edit: heres the beast in the rough! ![]() ![]() ![]() p.s. dont flame me for using simpson belts to lift the engine, they're long expired for track use in my race car Last edited by rocknrace03; 08-21-2011 at 09:22 PM. |

good news. the 4 speed trans in my car mounts up to the new engine, yay for evolving engine platforms. should save me a little time, the only thing i here is that i have to use a b20 oil pan and pump, but yay that the engine i have in the car from factory. win!

so this past friday i ran to the junkyard to grab the entire dash wiring harness from my donor car, the only part i didn't bring are the parts that run back to the tail lights/ trunk ect. i did in my speedy removal of both the engine and then harness, forget to grad the starter.... DOH! hurricane irene came and knocked my power out for 40 hours taking away a lot of my potential work time and turned it into, keep the generator going with my dad all night/day/night. today in class i figured if the bell housings on the trans are the same, well damn the starter should be close. get home pull the starter off the 1973 b20 engine and wall it bolts right up to the 1991 b230! I'm starting to love the way things are working out. especially since i have a brand new clutch and pressure plate that came with the car. plans as of now are 1: compression check on junk yard engine.(I'm rebuilding it no matter what) 2: pull old engine and trans and mate trans to engine 3: strip interior and paint it black, i know it seems stupid at this point, but i can't go wrong with a black interior, and with all the wiring, i don't want to wire it, then have to remove it all to paint and then do it again! so interior paint goes in. 4: drop in new engine with trans and fab engine mounts and wire it up. get it to the point that it cranks over with the key. 5: pull engine trans, paint engine bay and begin to rebuild engine, complete remount and first start up, possibly drive but probably not. this time frame should take place by the end of november and then once it runs ill start body work or interior fab. expect daily updates and lots of pictures, i know I've been slacking with pics, just not much going on. pics tomorrow with compression check. old engine comes out this weekend!
