Hi guys.

WRXREX- we also tune open source ;) I can do it when you come in next week. pm me for pricing
In fact im pretty sure i have a base map on your car. Ill have to check my flash drive.

scoobynubie's tune was clearly the issue with the melted piston. Look at that piston as well... its clearly lean. Bad afr? Bad timing?

Im NOT bashing Mikey, he is a great tuner and knows his stuff.. Everyone tunes differently and we all have our bad tunes.

We also have a dyno checklist an refused a few tunes this week for cars that didnt pass.

We opt for the dyno if customers request it. The car gets cleaned up on the street after so most cars we do in fact road tune. yes its dangerous and yes there is liability involved but the finished tune is worth it.

Its not actually (sorry I'm a pain, and PLEASE keep in mind I'm not bashing you in anyway, I respect your build and you!!!)

A quote from your thread by you -

Your right, it seems we'll never know hence why I wouldn't point blame. The tuner saying "I think I just blew your engine" doesn't conclude that he's solely responsible. To me it means the tune he's done to similar cars with no problem blew yours for some reason.

Still, yeah, a tuner CAN blow a car up! It is possible, I just find it hard to believe that a tuner that's been successful many times in the past was the problem. Unless you have the map to show's carelessness / irresponsibility for your set up nothing will be conclusive as far as the tuner goes.

Is it at all possible that the car was running lean/damaged prior to this tune? Did the car go threw a check list? Reading his thread the car had a shaky history before the tune happen.

(Also not bashing you IN ANYWAY, me and you go wayyy back like 1999 with our RS, I know you know your sh**!!! I'm just sticking up for tuners everywhere who get blamed for blowing engines when it wasn't their fault)

It probably was and an aggressive tune just aggravated the situation. Remember, I didn't blame the tuner.. just the tune ;)

Its nice to have a shop to go back to when the tuner tells you there is a boost/exhaust/vacuum leak/something unexpected and that the car cant be tuned any further.

it happens more than you think.

+1. Having a tuner local around in case anything happens is worth the hassle of changing whatever engine managment you're running. What's going to happen if you need a retune? You'll have to track down 3 more people who need a retune so he'll come back up from CT? That sounds pretty inconveniant and I hope it's not your daily.

Not to jump on the bandwagon but Ryan (Area1320) just road tuned my car about two weeks ago and it runs amazing. Picked up tons of power and it drives so smooth. I'd definitely recommend him if you end up changing your mind.
