Helmet

Notice.. the child ... may have been either forced to wear a helmet or he decided to do it on his own ... but heck.. he lived.. end of story. The no-helmet law still has to be the biggest joke in the US. Yes i know some people are gunna either tell me 'Pussy' or 'I love not wearing one' but comming from people that may end up in this kind of situation, i will chose to keep the helmet on!

^^^ Possibly, but its just another statistic working against bikers in general.

My boss was tossed thrown through a windshield because someone pulled out in front of him. He swears by the helmet now.

Seriously. I don't understand why you would not wear a helmet when out on public roads. No matter how much experience you have, the other A holes of the world could care less about you.

Wow thats about the most selfish, heartless, asinine thing I have heard in a very long time. I dont care what the factors of the crash were, a man is dead with his son injured and his wife was behind them watching it all, they are now a family torn apart. Couldent ask for a better outcome than that right there huh, thats very mature and humane. Good post mack

I'm kind of in the middle.

Guy gets on a motorcycle presumably intoxicated (it doesn't take much on a motorcycle to be intoxicated, as little as .02 is enough) with his son on the back, then rides his brand new motorcycle far above the speed that he's comfortable with sober, let alone drunk, and hits a pole with his wife riding behind.

It's just bad decision after bad decision you know? Yes, it's a sad story, but the guy brought it on himself. I don't feel bad for the guy that died, that was all of his own fault. I do however feel for the family as now they have to suffer for his poor choices. I know that's not a position I would want to be in OR put my family in.

Everyone go back and read the OP. They added more information which differs from the original story and kind of changes my whole perception of the crash.. if true.

dont let that convince you that you will be safe... I have seen a LOT of people who are now in wheel chairs for the rest of their lives from motorcycle accidents... and they WERE wearing helmets (they just dont have brain damage )

thats ridiculous, thats like saying if you break the speed limit and crash and die you "had it coming". Just a ridiculous, stupid statement.

exactly. i think the dad may have shown up drunk or had been drinking at least when his son called him about a problem with the bike. either way, its a sad story.

Very sad. Imagine riding with your pop one second, and then witnessing his death right infront of you. Pretty sad wether he had it coming or not.

Interesting, but I'm not sure about that. If you lose consciousness on a bike at 5-10mph you're more likely to just fall right over than suddenly speed up? Stability of a bike at those speeds is next to none, especially with a passenger.

What is dumb? Riding a motorcycle on public streets. What is dumber than dumb? Not wearing a helmet. Natural Selection @ Work.

NEW CASTLE, Del. - June 14, 2011 (WPVI) -- A Delaware man, riding his motorcycle home with his son on the back, was killed when he lost control of the bike and flipped over, police say.

The man has been identified as 37-year-old accountant Anthony Brooks, Jr. of New Castle.

Brooks was not wearing a helmet, however, his passenger, his 19-year-old namesake son, was and survived.

"He loved his bike, he loved his family," Anthony Brooks III said.

The incident began last night when Anthony Brooks III could not get the 2005 Kawasaki motorcycle to start in a nearby park.

He called his parents, who said they would be right over.

Once they arrived, their son had already figured out the problem was the kickstand's positioning, which he fixed
.

Anthony Brooks, Jr. told his son he would like to ride the bike home and his son got on the back.

Police say Brooks was operating the bike on New Castle Avenue when he slowed down and leaned into a routine lefthand turn. That's when everything went wrong.

"He stopped turning, he was going 5 to 10 mph. I kept tapping, 'Dad, Dad, Dad.' He was not responding to me," the son said.

Anthony says his father appeared to slump over; the bike then blasted out of control throwing Anthony off the back.

He wonders what caused his dad to lose control.

"Maybe like a heart attack or a stroke or something, he never had a heart attack before, but I know he wasn't responding to me when I was shaking him," Anthony Brooks III said.

The bike hit the curb and several concrete pillars.

Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene.
