Have you guys heard of Nate from dsmpartout.com aka DSMotorsport? I think he also put together a sick 14b setup to break the record. Or maybe 16g, I forget. But it should be interesting an season to find out. It's all about the weight and the driver. The power is very limited on 14b's.

Nate was going for the 16g record. he just found out that his 16g was taking a shyt so hes in the air slapping the 14b on. Might possibly be on the car now though.

Yep, nates setup was built to go after the 16g record but he blew the turbo and slapped a 14b on for now. His cams are a bit on the big side, so he's probably losing slot of area under the curve where the 14b's sweet spot is. Still, it'll be interesting to see what he can squeeze out of it. He's already run 11.78@110. Still a long way from the record but he could overtake the #2 overall car, which is also the fastest AWD 14b.

I know this is an older thread, but how did he (Steve I assume from his SN) make out with the 14b/e85 FWD car?

1st time at the track i know he went 12.4@114 with a 1.8 or 1.9 60' at 24psi. 14b/e85/320whp (dynojet)/slicks
That was 1st time ever on a fwd car with slicks (brand new ones at that) and 1st time at the track with that car/setup so i know he said there was better times in it plus more weight that could have been removed.

He only made it to the track that one day. Between the car, work, few other project cars wasn't able to dedicate more time to it. Told me the other night the cars getting new suspension and will be back out this year. Will be going with a hta68 at some point though.

Here are by best 14b timeslips so far. First two are without nitrous. The 11.3 is the #2 14b time now, still a ways off Bucci's record pass, but basically the fastest of all the current cars and all the awd cars.

The third timeslip is with a direct port nitrous kit activated, but the HG/Head blew up at half track and I hit the brakes at about 1000' and pulled over just after the traps. Still ran 11.3 like that...note the 1/8mile difference. Ended up being the fuel jet in cyl #3 was plugged with debris and was insane lean in that cyl.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bN5vlawwXHE&hd=1

This last fall I pulled the car completely apart down to a bare shell. I bought another 1g shell that had a full chromoly cage (yellow car had mild steel roll bar). The new shell has more extreme weight loss...its tube from the shock towers back, and the front is cut off at the shock towers too (still needs tube work done on front end.) It will also get lexan windows. I would estimate the new car will be a solid 200-250lb lighter. Planning to possibly have the new car on the track in the fall, but it very much depends on budget and time.

In the mean time, I'v picked up a 92 Talon AWD auto to use as a daily driver, and have pretty much transferred all the engine modifications and setup over from the 2011 14b setup. I just got it running last week and still have to get inspection done before I start modding it hardcore. Im intending to use the everyday car to experiment with things that I don't have time to do on the trailered race car, such as logging exh manifold back pressure at varying boost levels to find out the ideal boost pressure curve. Goal is to get the tuning and setup nailed down perfect so when the new race car chassis is ready to go, it's rather "plug and play" to start making record attempt passes without having to test&tune much.

im in the top 10 for stock turbo 1/4's...not dsm though
For the most part, the consensus is that the 14b record must be
  • stock 14b compressor wheel - here lies the limitation
  • stock TDO5H compressor housing - porting accepted
  • standard bearing housing - water line elimination optional
  • stock TD05H turbine wheel - clipping optional
  • MHI bolt pattern turbine housing - 6cm, 7cm, E3 7m all are acceptable.
  • Wastegate is all open. external gate, internal gate, or NO WASTEGATE all good

Realistically, the 6cm housing vs 7cm housing is the only debatable thing and availability of a good working 6cm housing pretty much precludes everyone demanding it be totally stock. There simply aren't any more uncracked 6cm housings out there, so the newer 7cm housings are accepted as the way to go, be it from a 16g, E3 turbo, or the knockoff turbine housings. I don't think it makes a huge difference in power either way.

Any update on this guys? I've been reading the 14b drag thread over on tuners and nothing new really seems to be happening over there. Steve, did you get your 14b/e85/FWD car back to the track or do anything more to it? I recently bought a 1g non turbo and am looking into the 14b stuff now pretty heavily.

I'm suprised there aren't more dsmer's on this site trying to chase down this goal. 1g cars and parts for these cars can be had very cheap anymore, Especially used. Then it's all in the assembly/tuning/driving of the car to see how quick it will go. It would be neat if there were a thread made for a few dsmer's on this site who agree to do almost maybe a ''14b build off'', maybe with a 1 months or so time-limit. Then everyone meet up and get to the track to see how everyone does. I'd be in for that if more people took interest !

I'm not really sure about the "build off" part of it, as I just got my car. (it's a 1.8L car that I'm swapping to a 4g63). But as far as is being a 1g and 14b as the only rules.. I'm down also! I would love to meet up somewhere (Cecil, Maple Grove, Etown, etc) and run a bunch of 1g / 14b powered cars together. It's pretty easy to go fast when you have a 2700 lb car making 500whp. Wonder how many people would honestly be interested (and have the time/funds) to be involved in 1g / 14b shootout (or just meet the same day, at the same track).
