here's the deal... there is a ton of oil in reserves... enough that the prices shouldnt be going up. BUT we've got middle eastern countries and the corporations running those price gouging. there is a global oil "group" that decides these things. on top of that you've got the revolution going on in lybia that sits on a LARGE amount of oil.

oil is a finite resource... we'll run out in 20 years if we keep going the way we're going. electric cars are in the future... next 10 years we'll see some more available vehicles at the common man's price range. thanks to the likes of the tesla, electric sls and that porsche.

More realistically run out of oil in hundreds of years from now, where I hope by then the new technology around is far more efficient and renewable

electric isnt really a solution though because you have to make the power, hydrogen would be a possibility but the problem is every time there is a spike in gas prices there is a push for alternative energy then people get used to prices and seem to stop caring.

I always winder how finite the reserves are. I remember reading an article a few years ago about a researcher that said oil isn't from decaying plant and animal material. He claims that oil is a natural byproduct of the earth's cooling. To prove his threory, he had a well drilled where all the research indicates there shouldn't be oil, in far away form any know oil reserves and through a couple thousand meters of solid rock. Rock that was supposedly around before there was plant life on earth. Underneath it, they found oil.

yea 93 octane is a minimum for most turbo people on here. but i will say(and most people will agree) that its worth it to pay 93 for boost :] especially if its a DSM.....

not really. the last time i drove my talon, it was about 10$ extra per tank. but that's every fill up. with my type of driving it was easily 30$ extra per week. 120$ extra a month. adds up quicker than you think!

I know there is a knock sensor to deal with gas with an octane other than recommended should there be an issue, but can you really expect your car to run optimally with the wrong Octane?
By optimally I do not mean peak performance but also fuel economy. I also realize that if I use 89 it could be 91 octane gas for all I know (since all gas is a minimum of advertised octane)

I use premium in my non-boosted Miata. Why? Because I don't give a ****. 30 cents extra per gallon. 10 or 11 gallons per fillup.

$3.00-$3.30 big ****ing deal. If I gave a damn about gas prices, I'd quit smoking.

Well, that's not good.

And unfortunately my BEATER is a Prelude, and only takes premium. And it gets around 20 mpg. The Evo though... I need to get gas in that thing every 3 days.

Both my WRX and Ford Explorer need premium. Luckily my beater takes 87, but it still only gets 20-25mpg. I'm stoked I picked up a bike to commute because they are predicting well over $4/gallon. My wife drives the WRX and she only drives 4 miles to work so she doesn't need to fill up often.

FYI, you'd be surprised how much stuff this can affect. My wife went food shopping one week, paid $10 for something. Went back a week later and it was $12... tire prices are going to go up HUGELY

This is actually good news for my business. During the summer months less people will go away, so they will come out and eat locally more often.
