looking great...thats a good call that your boss has a conect like that...18k is still a lot of money to play around with even if you are buying all oem parts from the dealer(considering some of the labor is at a discount/free on your part) im sure you still can turn this into a nasty build. Im supprised that they were going to total it, because it doesnt look like THAT much work to make it straight. But then again i really dont know where the line is of totaled/fixable. If i am correct the price of parts+labor has to be less then or equal the BBV of the car, right?
good thread, curious to see where and how it comes out. |

Usually a car will total at 75% of its value. On certain occasions (rare cars) they will go up to 100% of its value, but on this case we had to change some of the numbers to even get the claim low enough to even hit 18. It was in the 20s when the insurance guy first wrote it.

nice to see an evo being brought back to life. Unfortunately mine will be going up for sale here soon. Putting on some finishing touches (back to stock) and then she's gone. I'll buy another but first i need a new house.

Ok, So now its 98% finished. All thats left is installing a few little pieces and to finish fitting all the panels perfectly.

No insurance scamming went on, its kind of a gray area. The adjuster worked with us to keep it from being totaled. Basically instead of giving us $500 per wheel. We were allotted $200 each.. (keeping the final claim lower) We saved money on labor in other areas to make up the difference so no money out of pocket needed to be spent. Thats just one example of how money was shifted around to benefit everyone.

i didnt really mean scammed and I shouldn't have said that.. I just wonder what the ins company would say if they knew you got performance and aftermarket parts for the car they paid out on.. like on the invoice from the shop (which I am sure was necessary for reimbursement) If you put "Mitsubishi Lance Evolution IX front bumper cover" and got a C-west bumper your lying to them (just trying to look out for you gun buddy haha) I am sure they dont "get" people for this and I am well aware it is a common practice I would just hate to see you be made an example of if they do decide to start cracking down.

An AMS intercooler is $7xx, new from AMS. An OEM intercooler is around $900 from the dealer. I needed an intercooler anyway, mine was damaged. Used Enkei RPF1 wheels w/ tires= $1100...just 1 OEM BBS MR wheel from the dealer is $400. Multiply that by 4 and it's $1600 just in wheels, tack on another $700-ish for 4 decent new tires. I don't see any scamming going on here. I didn't buy anything I didn't need. And all of the body panels that were purchased were OEM. p.s. Great work, Drew!!
