Tell them you'll return their money after they return what was purchased from you.

AIM conversations can be logged and saved to a computer, but just as easy you can sit down and create a conversation between two people. In a criminal case they have to prove that it was you and no possiblity that it was anyone else.
Although everything that you sold him were things you go to a store and purchase, nothing that you need a liscence or anything else special for. Did he specifically say he wanted the nitrous to get high, that would make you a supplier and responsible for his death if it happened.

His parents obviously just found everything, or opened the package that was sent to him and are not happy so they are getting back at you because "their kid wouldnt do that".

Like Wil said, it would be easiest to give them the money back and call it even, although i dont know if i would give up $1300 that easily. If you do go that route, tell them you want somethign in writing when you return the money.

what would i ask for in writing? the reason they are calling is they found the 1300 dollar charge on the parents credit card!!!! I dont eblieve he mentioned anything about getting high... good to know online conversations do not hold up in law.. as you said they are easily modified.

Close your paypal account asap. You will regret it if you dont because if you read there policy if you have a major cc or account with funds they will dip into it.

ah very interesting... thank you. so close the account asap? or what ? it would be theft if they just dipped in without proof though. i use my paypal for ebay and selling to friendly car guys like yourself.... wouldn't paypal have to be 100% correct in order to do that?

You are putting your ass on the line here. I'm sure everyone here has great intentions, but it would be best to actually contact a lawyer and get advice from them.

In the meantime, I wouldn't have any contact with this dude's parent until you talk to a lawyer. Things you say and do can make this situation worse.
Good luck!
Seriously, talk to a lawyer! Real soon.

Great.
I would do nothing until then. Sounds like you running into 2 pissed-off parents to me, and they are trying to take it out on you. I personally would make my kid pay me back every dime with interest, intstead of going after the seller.
Again, good luck.

i personally would yell at my kid and make him pay back the money... especially cause this kid has been caught with drugs in the past, kicked out of two schools etc etc..

is taking your parents credit card and spending money fraud for him?

Yes it is but his parents aren't going to benefit taking it out on him. Instead they will get the credit card company to get that money back from you. Even if you close your account now you might end up getting a letter directly from them instead. If you have any hope of trying to keep that money you might as well get over it.

I hope you learned a valuable lesson about ecommerce. Don't say or do anything you don't want people to know about cause their are records of everything. I'm in the information science field, trust me. Oh and whatever you do, don't admit anything in an email! There are at least 6 copies of every email you've ever sent on various computers. The first thing they'd do in a case like this is supeona (sp?, the word for legally request) your email, and that is admissable in court. I second the lawyer.

technically it would be paypals responsibility to verify the correct user of the cc... all you did was sell legal merchandise... the fraud is comletely on the shoulders of their kid... you should contact a lawyer and NEVER allude to illegal activities... in fact all posts in this thread that even point in that direction should be removed since they have nothing to do with this

it's a simple fraudulent cc transaction...

1. No one here is a lawyer
2. Even if they were they are not giving you legal advice
3. No one here is a lawyer, ask one.

Good luck. Be 100% honest with your lawyer.

as long as you held up on your end of the deal and sent the product then you did nothing wrong. You sold tobacco pipes and nitrous products to someone who gave verbel conformation that they were of legal age. call his dad and tell him if he ever calls again that you will pee on his wife. or better yet send me half the money and I'll pee on her for ya
