I wouldn't do an auto unless it was an A6. I really wish the C6 Vette autos would work with a GTO and I would get rid of my M6 tomorrow.

I was originally going to do a TH400 3 speed with no overdrive. The 4L80e's are fine. It's an overdrive trans and since the gearing will be relatively low in the rear end, rpms wont get out of control. The 4L80e is basically a TH400 with overdrive. 4L80e's have been into the 7 second ET range while still providing overdrive for cruising/highway.

They cost a crazy amount to build up though compared to a TH transmission an god forbid after it's done you jump on it while it's in OD you'll be sendings parts all over the highway. I guess it also depends on how much power your looking to put down my tuner drove his into the high 8s.

I can get a fully built TH400 for $1300 and a fully built 4L80e for $1500. It's a no brainer for me.
