Yea but she needs it to go back and forth to college. I doubt any of those cars will hold up at $2500.

It's all about the owner. I DD'd a 97 Talon 40 miles to and from school daily for 3 years, my best bud DD'd his Supra turbo further than that. Unless you've actually done it, your imput might be a litte skewed.

Yea but you most likely aren't gonna get a great DD car for $2500. Its gonna have a ton of miles on it and its going to need work. If she expects to just pay $2500 for a car and jump in and drive it, its not going to happen. Stuff is going to start breaking on it.

Shes better off going to a dealer, finding a used car and putting the $2500 as a down payment.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way. Maintenence items are bound to happen, but if the car was well maintained, and if she then takes adequate care of it, you can definately find what she's looking for in that range. The 420a in my Talon took everything I could throw at it and is still running like a top two owners later.
As for going to a dealer, if she only has $2500 to spend, I doubt she'll be able to pull off the full coverage insurance she'd need.

If she has a job then paying full coverage is not that hard. I have a car payment and pay full coverage and I've been laid off for 5 months.

If a Civic fits her price range, fits what she wants to do to a car, and fits her needs... then she should probably buy a Civic. Don't you think?

ford festiva with a turbo........their are alot of nice cars to be had for that kind of money you can get a 1g dsm and still have a little extra to do maintenance work for the reliability aspect. If she likes the miata the go that rout they are all over for 2000-3000 for a decent one and a wide aray of aftermarket

LOL at this! Having a loan means full insurance coverage and you're in debt the minute you sign your x on the line.

My dad paid $1500 for a piece of crap car with 160k miles on it and then it drove for 6 years after with nothing replaced on it but tires, windshield wipers and regular maintenance things. At the end it started to go but for $1500, I think he got his money's worth.

Well I don't see people posting any links of $2500 TUNER cars in here... I have looked and its pretty rare to find one in decent shape thats rwd or awd. Most I found were in the $4k range but I have only gotten to look at Craigslist so far.

For $2500 you shouldnt be picky about the drivetrain configuration. It REALLY cuts out alot of nice cars.

91-99 Sentra SE-R or one of the other SR20 FWD platform cars cant be had in good condition for that kind of money. Reliable, quick, and cheap to maintain.

thanks for all the help and suggestions guys, we're really not super picky or anything but i want her to learn how to drive quite well and to be honest its not gonna happen in a FWD. she drives my 500hp truck quite often and is learning nicely but you really need a sport/fun car to learn to drive properly IMHO.

can someone elaborate on the crank walk bit for that Talon? that would be a sweet ride...also that comaro was very nice. BTW guys its not like shes on her own here if it needs some attention here and there i can handle it i just don't want something that's going to be breaking all the time. also, i agree that it would be nice to just go to a dealer and get something but as of now she doesnt have a winter job just summer, so we really need to find something she can buy outright

thanks again for the help so far :D

Shes in college and just learning to drive? Maybe a RWD car isn't the best thing for her since shes not going to know wtf to do when it snows. And are you saying people who drive a FWD car cant drive? You don't need a "sport/fun" car to learn to drive properly. Did you buy your truck the way it is because it seems like you don't know wtf you are talking about. Maybe you should just figure this **** out on your own bc its obvious you don't really want our help.
