But what im saying is for DD purposes and if mods werent twice as what they should be. $4k for coilvovers, 1k for exhuasts only (stock net +10hp)..Na ill pass. Its not too too bad, but just not for me. Not trying to bash the S2K, well not hard anyway :P, im just hating becuase i could never buy 1. To each his own, obviouisly these thing should be taken into consideration when buying but some people just want a nice good looking, handling (AP2) car,....I would like to drive 1 though OP did you get yours yet? and i like that pic..HARDTOPS FTW!!! $4k for coilovers? i paid $920 shipped for my buddy club n+ and have been dailying them since my jeep is down and tracked them at time attack. you're paying $1k+ for exhausts if you're going name brand jdm or titanium. you can pick up an hks or greddy cat-back for under $700. you won't make a lot of power off bolt-on's initially like with a factory turbo car but if you're looking to make over 400whp you'll be spending in a similar ball park. there's a lot of misconception with this car and i'm actually happy for that so a lot of people who shouldn't own an s2000, don't. i see a kid in brooklyn with a similar car to mine all the time and he "drifts" it around every corner and drives like a real tool. i'd rather those people buy evo's and sti's.
it all depends on what you're looking for in a car. the s2000 isn't the fastest car on the road but driving one will bring a smile to your face every time |

Never said the ap1s didnt handle, i was just referring to the better of the two. If you watch videos of the ap1 vs ap2 it makes the ap1 look like crap though, hehe. I cant remember which video i watch..maybe it was best motoring.... Quote:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtdOU-yyZ_w the ap2 is a more refined car, that is correct... but look at how much better the MCR s2000 (which is in fact an AP1) performed over both cars in stock form. now im not saying that the OP will be spending as much money to mod his s2000 as they did if you take the price of a stock ap1 compared to a stock ap2 and use the money that you saved on the ap1 for mods... you will have a car that is much more fun to drive. with that extra $2-4k you can get parts that will make the car much better handling OP: if you plan on leaving the car stock, buy an AP2. if you plan on modding the car, go with an AP1 and use the money you saved for more mods every car has its little issues... it just depends on the previous owners and how they maintained them. i have seen earlier AP1's in better shape with less issued than some AP2's, doesnt mean they weren't still there or taken care of already (most of the issues have has TSB recalls) Last edited by CHR!S; 07-10-2010 at 03:48 AM. |

thanks
chr!s said it best. there's nothing wrong with owning an ap1. honestly my main buying point of my ap2 over the ap1 was the way it looks and how "refined" it is. notice refined is in quotations because it's still no euro luxury car but it gives you a bit of comfort over the raw feeling as an ap1 |

idk how anyone can say the ap2 has "torque". the word torque shouldn't even be mentioned around this car. i have to downshift 2 gears and go above 6,000 rpm's to get around a car in traffic

I may be a little late posting but I just want to share my expirence, Ive had my ap1 for almost 2 years now or maybe its 3 I honestly dont remember its all kind of a blur. However I love my car it really does bring a smile to your face when you drive it like tranceporter said. It was also my first manual and its held up pretty well to my abuse haha. I have a hardtop because my soft top has some holes in it one almost the size of a fist and i have the plastic rear window so i plan to eventully remove it and the interior for a cage. one of my shocks was leaking a little when we brought it to my mechanic and I put Buddy Club N+ coilovers on within less than a week and it handles quite well. I also have a Buddy Club spec 3 single exhaust and i paid 500 brand new for it so parts can be found for decent prices you dont need to fall into the crazy priced jdm products and s2ki vendors have decently priced parts if you go through them. all in all its a wonderful car I mean its made many top 10 lists and you cant argue with professionals right? it may not be for everyone but I got mine for a great price like it was almost to good to pass up for what it was. Ive driven an 04 and while its just as nice i prefer the ap1 for that little extra rpm room and the "torque" difference is really something you cant notice, at least I couldn't feel a difference. As far as tuning bolt ons wont do much because honda extracted most of the power they could from it, ive read threads where people claim they dont notice much difference with the expensive header exhaust combo's, you really need to retune it when you add parts to notice any real gains. Most benefit from suspension and brake upgrades. Dsport did an s2000 challenge and I think it was almost 3 seconds shaved off the lap time from a brand new stock ap2 and a stock ap2 with wheels, tires, pads, rotors, fluids, coilovers, and corner balancing. Then they tested a bunch of FI kits against that and the times didnt have as big a spread so suspension mods are where you see real gains unless you really build for power. So thats just my .02
