Rods (Eagle H-Beam Forged
Bearings (rod and main) (ACL Race)
Pistons (Supertech) (what ratio though?)
Headgasket (not sure on what versions available)
Oil pump (not sure if upgraded ones available or needed)
Oil Squirters (he said they are in the bottom of the block and recomended doing a new set, where do I find them?)
Headstuds (ARP)
Main Studs (lower block also by ARP)
Injectors (have 440CC but won't be enough)
Clutch (stock, need recomendations)

There are some things I am not sure if I should touch. One of them is the head, I don't know if it really needs any upgrading. I was considering going with the intake cam for the exhaust, but not sure where I can find em and how much one would cost. Also, the clutch is a question, the one in there is a stocker with 75k, looks OK but not enough for what I want to do. Valve kits aren't too expensive, but I don't know if there's a benefit.

My goal? 250+whp, somewhere closer to 270/280. I'm also not sure what turbo to run that will get me there. I like some of the starter kits BEGi offers that give you a manifold, turbo, and downpipe, but dont know whether to go log or tubular, and what turbo that will work best with the build above. I was considering a Disco Potato GT28. My goal is a RELIABLE, streetable, and FAST MSM. Emissions don't matter, it's a secondary car and gets exempt.
As far as the parts that you listed it all looks good. I would make sure that who ever machines the block also align hones it as well. You can stick with the oem headgasket, oil pump, bearings, and I would get new oil squirters as well. You can get them from Mazda BP01-10-580A. Good lock with the build.

What should I do headwide aside from new valve seals? It's looking like a gt3071 is going to be the best bet for what I want.

For the headwork I would say the valve seals are a good idea, and performance wise you can get the head ported and get a 3 angle valve job. Turbo wise the GT3071 is an overkill for 280whp, and something like the GTX2860 will be much better of making the car fun to drive and still make the power you want. Plus its a big enough turbo to let you run up to like 350whp if you want later on.

Flyinmiata says they don't use the gt28 turbos, and they gave reasons for it. I'll need to consult with them more. He said the 26 would max around 300whp, I think.the GTX only comes with their fm2r system

Begi makes a system with a 2860 :-/

If you can post on what they say about the GT28 turbos, id like to read about that or pm me. The only issue I see with the GT3071 is that in order to be in its efficiency range you would have to run like 18-20psi and at 20psi you are closer to 350whp than you are to 250whp. If you plan on tracking the car where low end power does not matter that much then the GT30 would be ok, since the engine will be spending more time at the higher rpms. Otherwise I would say try and go with a smaller turbo.

Something to do with a gt30 being able to spool just as quickly, and able to create more power. I was hoping for full spool by 4000 and they said the 3071 would do it. Wouldnt it also reduce stress on the engine running less boost? And reduce underhood temps?

I've also got to reconsider what kind of power I want. I don't know that a car with such a small wheelbase will even put that power down, I don't just want wheelspin

Buy the smallest turbo you can to hit the power level you want.

I think I'm just getting greedy. The only real reason I'm even going forged internals is just because I'm already in there and the parts aren't that much more than factory ones. I don't want to get say a 2650r and then regret going too small and being capped around 250whp, same going too big and lagging around. So many decisions.

Here are the choices
Flyinmiata-2554r, 2560r, 3071r.
Begi- 2560r, 2860rs

Flyinmiata said their turbos are as follows power wise
2554 to 200whp
2560r to 280-300whp
3071 to 400whp

They said with the 2560r ill be able to make around 250 on 10psi, 280-300 on 15psi, past that it runs out of efficiency.

I say GT28RS. You will make power quick, and they are good to about 350HP. Nissan guys love the Disco Potato.

That would be the BEGi kit, and I think this is a GT28 next to my stocker

Here's what the S3 looks like in the bay

I agree with going with the smallest turbo that will get you the power you want. I second the choice of going with the GT2860rs, its a great turbo and will give you the power you want, i originally said GTX turbo because its the new line from Garrett. You COULD go with the GT3071 but in order to get it to spool quicker you need to get a smaller turbine housing, etc etc. A properly matched compressor and turbine housings will spool better than "trying" to make a bigger turbo spool sooner.

Some people told me to go GT2871 but wouldn't that spool slower? Not that it matters because it's not available kit wise for me, but I'm just wondering.

The GT2871 would spool slower than the GT2860rs considering they have the same a/r turbine housing. I know its not available as a kit option, but I like the new GTX2863 or GTX2867. The GTX2867 will support almost 400whp and still spool like the GT2860rs.

Yea but that's a touch much for what I need. I really need to make sure the tune is done right. With how much money I'm putting into this build right now, I'd rather lose a little power than a whole motor.

Theres another system coming early next year that I might wait for using the EFR 6258

Apparently going to have quicker spool than a gt2554, same power capability or more than a GT2871.

More photos of the old now that all is disassembled. I have not cleaned these

Almost all of the pistons have this small wear on the sides

Well the block, head, crank, and old pistons are at BMS as recomended by Kevin. They told me to go ahead and order parts

Ordered
Boundary Engineering Street/Strip Billet oil pump
Wiseco 83.5mm 8.6:1 Pistons
Eagle H-Beam Rods
Comp Clutch 13lb Steel Flywheel
SPEC Stage 3 clutch kit
ARP main studs
ARP head studs
ARP rod bolts
MegaSquirt MS2 Enhanced

Left to order:
Complete Gasket set
ACL Race Rod Bearings
ACL Race Main Bearings
ACL Thrust Bearings
Mazda Competition Motor Mounts

Big thanks to JSCSpeed and Mike Spock for the hookup on most of these parts, I spent what I expected to on internals only but got a Clutch and Flywheel for the same money
