Hey Jim,
Thanks for the offer... thats super generous of you. I think if anything I would feel most comfortable with him using my camera-- first with me under my supervision so I can teach him how to use it. I might also look used to see what the options are there for something like a D90 or similar. You're right though, I hope that he'll be serious about sticking with it once he has a camera himself.

The offer's there if you want to take me up on it. The d90 and d300 have been sitting in my case since early december. I really wouldnt start him out shooting on the d700, especially since its full frame. It will be a hard adjustment going from full frame back to a crop body.

Grimm I'm with you. I have like 13 days at least to use before the year is over.
Looked at some houses last night with my family and Heather. May have found something if we don't drag our feet too long.

Lol... yeah I think a D90 would be a sweet camera for him and is something he could keep for a while really. We looked at the 3100 and 5100 but the thing that really bugs me about them is they only work with DX lenses, meaning there are a lot of lenses out there that wont have AF when used with those cameras. Also, they don't have a finger dial in front of the shutter release, but I don't know if that is as necessary to someone else as it is to me.
I'll keep the D90 offer in mind, thank you. If you decide to sell it, let me know about that as well. They look to be priced about the same used as the brand new entry level stuff which makes it pretty appealing, IMO.

Mine only carry over as like emergency days, such as I am out due to illness or something for more than 3 pto days and then I need those days so I don't cut into PTO. Some stupid **** like that. I'm definitely using mine up.

Here is something I want to try, but don't feel like spending a ton of money on a bottle of Bourbon that I will never use.
Rub 1tablespoon smoked paprika 2teaspoons dry mustard 1teaspoon kosher salt 1/2teaspoon granulated garlic 1/2teaspoon granulated onion 1/4teaspoon chipotle chile powder Glaze 2tablespoons soy sauce 2tablespoons bourbon 1tablespoon unsulphured (light) molasses 1tablespoon unsalted butter 2handfuls hickory wood chips, soaked in water for at least 30 minutes In a large bowl mix the rub ingredients. Add the drumettes and toss to coat them evenly. Prepare the grill for indirect cooking over medium heat (350° to 450°F). In a small, heavy-bottomed saucepan over high heat, bring the glaze ingredients to a boil and cook just until the butter melts. Transfer to a small bowl and let cool. Drain and scatter the wood chips over lit charcoal or put them in the smoker box of a gas grill, following manufacturer’s instructions. Brush the cooking grates clean. Grill the drumettes over indirect medium heat, with the lid closed as much as possible, until the meat is no longer pink at the bone, 20 to 30 minutes, turning and basting with the glaze once or twice during the last 20 minutes of cooking. Serve warm. |
