Just got the boost set, turns out I was still running on 9psi when I took it out the first time. 12psi, oh boy, she mooooooves! For those who rode in the car before and felt the hesitation the Mazdaspeeds have, its a new car with this chip. I am more than happy to have spent every penny to do this!

2 crappy quality vids from the other night, don't mind the corny radio tunes. If you can't tell, the speedo is on the right, 80mph is at the very top and the numbers are laid out in increments of 20mph. Pretty torquey

5th gear 65-100mph

Not reading through 195 pages (lol), but is there some type of restrictions on these? How come I never see anyone ever throwing bigger turbo's on or like 400whp from the MS version that you have?

To make that kind of power, you need to build the motor. There's no sense paying the premium for a Mazdaspeed if you're going to tear the engine out to rebuild and toss all of the turbo stuff, you're better off just buying a Naturally Aspirated and using the money you saved for a build. The stock turbo isn't big enough to be efficient past 13psi or so (about 220-230whp).

Only difference between the Turbo and Non-Turbo engines is Turbo 9.5:1 compression, N/A is 10:1.

Not to mention 400hp in a street driven Miata is just dumb. These aren't "numbers" cars, they're about being balanced, fun to drive, and extremely tossable on back roads. Throw 400hp in a ~2300 lb. RWD car with a sub-90 inch wheelbase, and you've got a pretty ****ty highway car that's hardly usable on back roads, where the Miata really shines.

The car's really coming along well man, you going to be out at any autoX events this year? I think I saw you when I ran with Warminster once last season.

Yea it was Event #5 on like the hottest day haha. And what you said about power is spot on. Going fast in a straight line is only fun for so long anyway

Lol, butthurt. It was just an example for a question I was asking.

Nobody's butthurt, just giving a reason why you don't see it (often) on street cars.

Yea I don't see anyone being butthurt, guy made a good point. Not that they can't, but very few people buy them for the sole purpose of big power. I'd still do an LS swap in a heartbeat if I could afford it, but part of that is for the cool factor, the sound, and the powerband is totally different between a 400hp turbo 1.8 and a 400hp v8

.
having driven a 400whp lotus (1900lbs) i wholeheartedly disagree.
my last one was 280whp and 2000lbs, and my current one is 1850# w. 225whp.. both were crying for more power. and im pretty sure the like 3 time national solo 2 champ elise is 400+whp and like 1500 lbs.

anyway, nice to see you stuck with the car through all the bs. enjoy the newfound power

now that your sitting on the 220whp mark roughly, which im sure for a car that size has to be wicked fun lol...

do you feel the need to add anymore power ? how do you think a car like this would do sitting in the 250whp range with hitting the ideal back roads ?

No need for dyno day action when you can just call PSI PROformance in lansdale and head up there for some pulls. Pricing is great and people are really friendly. Depending when you schedule I'd roll up and video for you alex. If you get 3-4 people together and schedule something they give discounted rates and well. Just call and talk to them.

I'll have to check em out, really want to just to make sure my AFRs are in check. Here's a dyno of a car with same basic mods but 10psi of boost

Feels great. I wanted to hit the 250 mark but to do that I'd need a different turbo kit and it just didn't make sense financially. Would probably be fine, just need to be a better driver at that point.

Thanks to Twisted Tuning!!!

Good news is the car made 206whp and 186wtq on 10psi and from what I saw (still waiting to have graphs emailed to me) at the shop, the curve was oh sooooooo smooth!!

Bad news is that anything higher starts to lean out little by little. I've contacted BEGi and will send them the graphs, I understand it might need some fine tuning and I'm perfectly OK with that. Hopefully my info can benefit everyone's future flashes!

Gotta love BEGi. I'll post the dyno graphs when I get them, but they're going to send the info to ChipTorque and they are going to adjust the tune so I can get adequate fuel at 12psi.

Brian at Twisted Tuning said at the rate it's going, at 12psi it should be in the 220-230whp range, and over 200wtq for sure.

These are my graphs. 10psi the curve is real nice, 12psi not so much. Also the fuel delivery is weird. No worries though, it will all be corrected.

10psi

12psi (2 pulls)
