A lot of people, including myself, are in favor of whats under the hood > looks. However, I still like to keep my cars clean.

btw, nick... not trying to slam your idea (thought we were talking about rt tuning).
However keep in mind that trying to run a business where you rent out a huge garage to store a bunch of exotic cars in, would require that you, as a business have the proper insurance to cover all of those cars in case of theft or damage. Thats why you dont see places like that around. The insurance alone would eat up most (if not all) of the profit.

That is going to be one of the biggest hurdles.

Sorry you feel that way, but it's true. There are people who appreciate the true value of a properly maintained car as opposed to those that just dust it off and drive away. I dunno where it was thought that I was aiming at every exotic car owner to give me their car and store it. There are people who want the peace of mind while theyre away or if they dont have the space (most people in the city have money but the city doesnt have secure garages) and it's cheaper to pay for storage than to buy a $100k parking spot, even more for a garage. It's marketed to different people obviously, not ALL of them like it seems to be assumed.

Nick,

I just don't see this idea working. Not unless you're charging your clients serious money. If I had the money for a Ferarri I could also afford someone to check up on it and clean it now and again at my premises as well as proper security for it if I so wanted it. I would be very worried about putting it in some facility which I don't know for sure how is run filled with other exotics just waiting to be raped.

It's feasible, heres an example facility.

Obviously it's an idea that's a work in progress, but it's definitely possible.

I'm not trying to be a neg nancy or anything.. but I think if you were to have this exotic storage type deal, you'd want it to be kept fairly discreet in terms of the public. I just feel like the more people know about it (in terms of non storage space customers) the more of a risk it poses to security. I like the idea of the storage.. just not the idea of the storage + detail shop next to

Well whatever you do, I suggest you hash it out fully both here (just as a reality check) but more importantly with the clientele you're trying to support. Most people here, myself included, just can't wrap our minds around having that much money. Most importantly, they don't think of money along the same lines. For these people spending $1000 a month to make sure their Ferarri is safe might be a drop in the bucket - but it might be enough too. Regardless I don't think you have any real trade secrets going here or anything. One thing is for sure, your facility will have to be TOP notch. Perfect lighting, pristine clean, etc - even if they only see it once.

Nick, a properly maintained car is not a car that is detailed everytime it goes out for a drive. There is more to maintaining a car than just a detail.

so would this only be for exotics? Would you offer a discount for multiple cars from one client? different forms of "membership" to offer discounts and or to bring back clients? Seems like a good idea. Will require quite a bit of money to start up i think

I understand this, it's not like I haven't thought about this at all. It's not like I'm gonna have some tin car port to keep the cars in, I know what come with it and what image to portray. I've been dealing with exotic customers for a WHILE, and working among them. However the person with most knowledge on such subject is namdoogwerdna on here, him as well as I (him a lot more than me) have a very good understanding of the exotic crowd and what they look for and how to please.

This isnt like an OH! THAT WOULD BE COOL spur of the moment thing. It would go well with the potential future customers of exotic vehicles who know how well I can restore/maintain their car to help build the trust to perhaps store the car with me. It's all a close network too, so one the name is out there, the work follows easily.

wow that is as FAR from the truth as you could possibly get... maybe that describes a lot of the faux rich people in the KOP area, but certainly not the majority of people with money.

also, isnt there a place like this along the turnpike near KOP? i always see algar trailers there and a variety of exotics sitting in the lot.

whoever is paying to store the car there, gets a spot. That's something to figure out later

I agree, and I don't know, haven't heard of it. Could be a performance shop?
