So what's the reasoning behind worrying about gains from the exhaust? I understand that the stock stuff is pretty good, and that any exhaust is going to cost a good amount of cash, but... I'd think any gains would be magnified with a supercharger.

The more I think about it, the more I think I'd rather spend the cash on a supercharger if the exhaust doesn't make some good gains either in performance or auditory, lol

As I said in my PM, if you're coming up here for x-MAS or New Years and want to throw the stock intake back on ill do a before / after on our linked dyno-jet. Then the exhaust with another Dyno!
That would be awesome and I'm down for doing that! I just won't have the money for the exhaust until my bonus check comes in in March. I'll definitely come up then...I got your PM and the system looks really good!

Headers give good gains on the car since you move the catalytic converters from right after the merge collector to after the entire manifold itself downstream. Removing the cat from the manifold design allows companies to enlarge the primaries and reroute the piping for better gains.

Some companies, like Super Sprint, charge $2400 for their headers since they perform the absolute best on a dyno, however most gains can be had for $800-1200 with other brands like AP, or using the factory manifolds from Europe where they didn't have Cold Start Emissions laws and didn't mount the cats in the manifolds.

So you would be paying $1,000 extra for the Super Sprint headers to gain ~2-5rwhp TOPS from my understanding. Some guys are into that, I think it's a bit of a waste of money.

I'd be looking to grab the FABSPEED setup for roughly half the Super Sprint setup, get similar gains and then use the money saved towards this kit:

http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...-system-e46-m3

That's the thinking at least. I'd like to stay N/A for a year after I get the exhaust, etc. done so that I can learn on a slower car. No point in trying to learn on a 570hp car, too much too soon.

Got examples? There's a ton of S/C'd M setups out there without issues

Ok, I agree with not seeing the point paying the extra $1000 for the Super Sprint headers. I'm glad we have people that do their research on here

Yeah...it's 2-5rwhp over the other header upgrade alternatives for $1000+ more...doesn't make sense to me, but to each their own. $1000 gets me almost there for a new set of Michelin PSS tires. OR it can also get this brake kit installed and leaves me money left over for the HPDE entrance fee.

I do a lot of reading on the cars I own/mod. Biggest thing I've learned is that less is more. Looking to go to a racing school and do my first HPDE this year so badly.

Here's some E46 M3 porn in the meantime:

Yeah, it does. I gotta see what the price installed will be.

I can't wait to do the HPDE! Haha

YouTube has a lot of E46 porn, love it.

Get an M, they're relatively cheap these days, although expect to do a PPI before buying and then still have maintenance etc to do after you buy it.

Ain't cheap but worth the experience.

So the pullies arrived today and I'm considering installing them myself....

Shouldn't be too bad. Are they held on with hex socket bolts (uses an allen driver) or regular hex head bolts?

wow, that looks really involved. Look like it should be relatively easy to handle though, shouldn't be all rusty and nasty like an old car. Do you have an impact gun for the alternator pulley removal?

Yeah it is more involved than I'd prefer haha. Nope no impact gun or air tools. May get an electric one.

Contacted Eurowise about doing the brakes and pullies. I can drop the car off with them and take the light rail back to my place. They quoted me $871 for pulley install, rotors, lines, pads and calipers installed and each caliper freshly rebuilt. Pretty good price so it's getting dropped off next Wednesday.
