They asked me to do something near the end of the day that on the best of days couldn't be done in time. I told my office in Pittsburg that it wasn't going to be completed in the deadline they gave me. They asked if I could stay late to do it and I said no, its nice outside

I don't see any reason to go above and beyond... we get standard raises now so even the people that suck get what I get, the position I was working towards was removed so my department is a deadend, and frankly when you do step up you never get even a thank you. Hell, I even refered someone to be hired and he did a great job but after 3 months they decided to downsize and got rid of him, but kept 2 secretaries that can't cover for anyone if they are out so they are worthless. Why not have someone that can do both jobs rather then someone who can barely answer the phone and open mail for me? Oh, I know... because she is church buddies with my boss and has more job security then anyone else.
