Have a question for the more knowledgeble about tire sizes.
Right now with the BBS and 205 50 16 tires I am at 11" hub to fender on all 4 corners. I will be running a 205 40 16 on the next set (16x8) According to the Miata.net tire size calculator: BBS Setup - 24.1" diameter XXR Setup - 22.5" diameter That leaves them 1.6 inches smaller all around, or .8 inch on the radius. Does that mean my car is going to drop that extra .8 from going to a smaller sidewall? If not, how much.

With a 205 45 16 the tire sat right against the fender, definately would need a slight pull to be as drivable as I like...I HOPE with a 205 40 the whole look and drivability ties together, probbably won't be tucking a lot if any but it should still be pretty decent fitment.
Any idea on how much it's gonna drop exactly? Compared to the 205 45, the 205 40 should be .4 inches smaller on the radius, so I hope I don't have a lot of gap left when all is said and done cause otherwise the look will be all broken.

BBS RKs would look nice on your car
![]() Also as an update, ordered tires this morning, 205 40 16 Falken Ziex-912. Gotta run to Mazda after work and pick up 2 front wheel studs that I ordered yesterday (2 of mine snapped). All that's left is tuner lugs that will be skinny enough to work with these wheels and I need hubcentric rings, I believe 54.1 to 72.1 (centerbore on the XXR)...someone correct me if I'm wrong please. edit: need 54.1mm to 73.1mm rings...called Street Road Accesories and they got em for like 12 a set...might get lugs there too.

This is opposite from what I've been hearing for a long time, why do you say that...really, I want to know, less money to spend.
A full shot of the first "teaser" I posted. Just imagine it with more stretch and a little gap which the shadow of the fender SHOULD hide...I dunno...I don't know what a 205 40 will look like at my height, I hope good otherwise I gotta figure out how to lower the rear on my racelands (it doesnt go lower becuase of axle interference), can't just drop the front and have rake. ![]() Getting excited but also kinda nervous, worrying that the 205 40 wont be enough tire, I don't want to have visible gap...on the other hand the 205 45 is just a tad big, so in theory one sidewall down should be just right. In the back of my head this whole time I can see myself coming into the shop to pick it up and having one of those *West Coast Customs* moments where I fall to the floor and yell "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I cant believe its my car"

that guy above is wrong. Some wheels require hubcentric rings. My RPF1's come hubcentric for a Miata but most other wheels require them.

Also, when I got the car it only had 3 hubcentric rings with the 16's that came with it. When I bought my 15" Konig Minuz they didn't come with rings, so I'm not running any right now. I don't feel any problem with them.

Oneday has seen more track time than you ever will, and is correct. You post too much dude. "They are not required. They are a convenience item. They are NOT a load bearing item which is why they are typically made from nylon reinforced plastic. Their job is to roughly center the wheel while the user tightens the lugs. The lugs do the final centering. Racers will often skip the hubcentric rings because they do not want to take the chance of them dislodging and getting stuck on a hot hub during a fast trackside tire change on race day. Racers will typically squat and use their knees to hold the wheel roughly centered while they spin the lugs on."

I didn't mean required. It's just convenient to have. I'm not going to argue anymore because I don't care. because my wheels came hubcentric specific to my car. No need for rings. But if I had, say, XXR wheels or something, I'd sure as **** buy rings for them.

I noticed on my BBS wheels for example sometimes the 4th lug didnt't go on tighter till I loosened the others and gave it "wiggle room" to seat against the wheel properly.

Thats why torquing in the proper sequence is so important!
Snug em all up in a criss cross pattern, then torque them in the same pattern. You're supposed to retorque after driving on them, but I don't know many people who do that even though its a good idea.

Yea, just easier to do the star pattern when you got 5 lug. Still need to pick up 12x1.5 tuner lugs, probbably gonna skip on rings for now, Street Road Accesories has all kinda sized in stock at their store for like 12 bucks for 4, if I feel vibration or anything, I'll pick them up then. Anyone know where I can get good lugs locally for not a ton of money..don't care for Volk or Gorilla or any of that, just remember my friend running the Advance Auto Parts lugs and having them strip (and destroy the studs too)
