So this is why you flush an engine after spinning a bearing... No idea how much longer this would have lasted. Notice the oil holes aren't round anymore. These are from rod #3, the bearing that spun last time.

In other news... My car is on the ground, no leaks and it sounds a LOT smoother with the new crank and the clutch stuff taken care of.

Rod bearings are all at ~.06mm clearance (.12mm is the wear limit)
Main bearings are all between .05 and .06mm (.03-.08mm is ok for new parts)

Unfortunately I have no good way to verify the crankshaft end play, but the rods all tightened up to well under the axial wear limit. The block wasn't damaged in a way that affects how the thrust bearings sit, and the new crank's thrust surfaces looked good.

Now to break in the clutch

Pretty sure I had a leak from the oil pan into the bellhousing, so I pulled that and the rubber gasket was wet on both sides from oil. Awesome. RTV'd it up and letting it cure for a while before I dump the oil back in. I got a bit more metal crap flushed out into the pan from the thrust bearing crap. woo...

Here's a video my brother took of the clutch assembly. The noise this was making was unbelievably bad. Some of the 3SPA members can attest, and it only got worse since they heard it.

Getting some quick turn around on these repairs. Hope the RTV holds up for ya. Leaking where the oil pan flange meets the block?

I've got a bit of free time and I don't want to kill the clutch It was leaking where it meets the rear main seal housing, and a few other little places. Going to go put a bit more torque on it and see what happens.

Unsure if it's still leaking, not leaving little drops on the ground anyway... So whatever, lol. I've got the alignment tweaked back to where I want it, the right front camber bolts slipped and it had hellaflush (aka retarded) camber and obviously messed up the toe as well.

I have a few pictures... Been messing around with the HDR Camera app, so they're like ricer versions of pictures.

It stands for high dynamic range and a bunch of apps auto adjust pictures taken with cell phones to give it the look of a dslr. Most of them suck and edit a pic too much. Some do a better job and just increase color and clarity which it seems like this one does.

It takes three semi-quick shots with different exposures and mashes them together. The app has some settings to play withand I tend to tweak them to make them less saturated and more realistic. Seems to help my otherwise bland cell phone camera. Pretty decent camera, but it takes really bland looking shots by itself.

On a side note, my brother found a picture of my car when we were up in NY buying it. It's come a LONG way!

Ordered up some new crush washers, non-damaging fuel line clamps, and a new check valve for my fuel system. Hoping to fix a weepy fitting likely caused by PO reusing crush washers. I'm headed to the dealer tomorrow to buy a new seal ring for the in tank pump assembly, it was completely shot when I removed the assembly before and I never got around to replacing it. I'm hoping the new check valve helps a sluggish hot start issue. If I try to start when it's hot it sometimes chugs for a good ten turns before stumbling to life, which was pretty unpleasant when my clutch failed and I had to start in 1st, lol

I bought mine from Advance. I should have painted it, I think it was just primered. It has a bunch of surface rust...

edit: so I managed to win the Novice class overall. 2nd in SM where I was pretty outclassed car wise. Had a blast, and I can't wait to do it again!

Techtonics Tuning chip has been ordered. It's programmed for my specific setup, so I'm hoping to feel some decent gains.

May be influenced by the fact that I could go WOT for most of the course yesterday...

Finally got my new fuel hat gasket from VW. My old one was pretty torn up about getting thrown in the trash can.

TST is stuck in the dark ages without an auto-resize script, so the pic is a link, sorry.

Installed the chip today. Twenty minute job, even in this heat. It feels like it wants to keep going above 6500 now, way more than I was used to. At about 7300 it's really petering out. I haven't felt the need to go beyond that, but my rev limiter is now at 7600. Seems like everywhere in the rev range it's a bit more powerful.

Supposedly it takes 3 cold starts before it learns the car. I'll report back with any changes
