Haha it's every car forum. There's a good lack of understanding since the marketing for these parts isn't overly informative for the consumer.

Eibachs are definitely tempting because of their ride height, but I think in the long run I'll be happier with the kw's.

Plus they look cooler in the wheel well. (which is the real reason to buy coilovers. The colors). :P

Haha. KWs are certainly colorful. I wish more people would spend proper money on coilovers so I stop hearing "Oh, coilovers, they ride like crap"

It'll come around eventually. The STi forums took a good three years before they learned to avoid the asian coilovers.

Believe it or not, some guys run Tein and BC junk on their M3. I'm tempted to yell out NEEEIIINNN!!! when I see it.

So I took Magic Eraser to the side grille M3 badges and it cleaned them right up. You can now read it from several feet away. I also used the magic eraser on the oxidation on the black window trim, the cabin air filter cover under the hood and my headlights. The verdict is that it won't work miracles but does clean up some of the oxidation...not bad for very little cost and effort. It will also take off bug guts from your bumper pretty easily, but since I don't know its effect on paint, I washed the car afterwards.

Small touches are key, so I just ordered replacement vinyl striping for the M3 trunk badge since the stripes on there have faded over the years. The new stuff will be a little more UV resistant too. $5 shipped from Canada!

Here's a mini-driving review of an M3 with 97k on it:

Turning radius is very short, you can make U-Turns in very narrow roads, so what I've started to do is turn off the DSC and use the go pedal to make the turn even sharper. There's nothing quite like hitting the midpoint of the turn, hitting the gas, the rear stepping out to complete the right arc, then feeding the steering back to keep the car perfectly straight the entire time while spinning off excess power going straight again. No bull, I have never driven a car with balance as perfect as this one.

Heh, my brother has raceland coilovers on his golf, so I know what bad feels like... Tein and BC isn't much better, just more expensive.

Magic eraser is literally magic. It was great for cleaning interior trim pieces too. I don't think washing is necessary, but keep in mind it's strong enough to take off oxidation so imagine what it's doing to the paint. Much better paint than on the Evo or STi though

Sounds like a LOT of fun to drive. I'm a bit jealous...

Pretty much, haha. More marketing.

I'll have to try it on the interior trim, that's a good idea! Yeah, I didn't want to ruin the nice paint

It isn't the fastest or the best handling, but it's incredible at what it does.

Replaced one of the headlight lenses tonight. The whole thing now has a nice gap between the lower headlight trim and the bumper. Going to take it to the dealer to realign properly since I could NOT figure it out. The online videos don't show how to do it on a car equipped with the cold weather package. This is a big deal since that lower trim piece has a sprayer mechanism built into it on the cold weather package and doesn't simply come off the car....

Aside from that, the hood closes and I was able to screw most of the screws back in. Good news is that the difference is drastic in terms of clarity of the headlamps now between the two sides. Will tackle the other side and then have them all fixed up and aligned by a shop that has a better grasp of german plastic rails and clips than I do.

Sometimes I think the German engineers behind these simple tasks went a little too crazy with over-thinking things that should be simple.

Replaced the TCU with one from a 2006, unbundled a pre-wired wire harness and its plug. Plugged it in, typed in the PK password for the Bluetooth and viola. Full factory Bluetooth integration.

Actually I didn't even try it! I went and bought one off M3Forum that I knew would work for $200.

The previous one is up for sale on eBay. Turns out it does have the Bluetooth plug on it after all!! So it SHOULD work! Want it? haha

As some of you may know, I left my old career at Mack/Volvo and now work for Daimler. This move was very good to me after years of not being compensated for my responsibility and one of the perks is a company car. That will become my new daily driver once it's built. It should be here in 4-6 months from Germany. In the meantime, the M3 has been a dependable daily driver with good gas mileage and lots of driving fun.

With that said, I'm looking forward to taking it off the road. My plans to date have been to restore it and keep it near OEM for reliability and collector reasons since I plan on keeping it for the long haul.

However, it does need some maintenance and repairs done to it currently that I'm chomping at the bit to get accomplished. Since we all like to tinker with our cars, I also have some plans for the car beyond that OEM level which I will list here in a blueprint for what my dream M3 will be.

Power-wise I'd like to keep it N/A for purity sake. Yes, there are 600hp supercharger kits out there and turbo kits to make insane levels of power, but that has never been my goal in any of my builds and I really don't think the M3 is the right platform for that even if it can be done. Here's what I've formulated in my head over the past year.

-CSL airbox
-TMS power pullies
-CSL camshafts
-SS Stepped headers
-Euro section 1 w/cats
-Eisenmann sport catback
-Evolve Alpha-N tune

It doesn't really get much more expensive than this for N/A power, but for the sake of purity and purpose, it's the best way to go for my desire. Hearing that S54 at full bore go through the rev range has been one of the best automotive experiences in my life. This will heighten that and deliver me to 350+ BHP (conservatively).

CSL 19" wheels with Michelin PSS tires 245/275. It's the look and grip level I want out of the car.

KW V2 coilovers. Not as difficult to tune as the V3, still capable, but not too much for the street. Will also allow me to set the ride height to optimize the look of those CSL wheels.

CSL/ZCP steering rack. Shorter ratio for tighter turning of the wheel (really helps around some turns).

Here are the steering ratios:

Z4M Coupe 12.8:1
Z4M Roadster 13.7:1
ZHP 13.7:1
ZCP 14.5:1
M3 15.4:1

Turner Motorsport subframe reinforcements. Doesn't hurt to be proactive.

Brembo or StopTech BBK. The factory calipers like to freeze and require rebuilds from pistons going bad, seals deforming, etc. Let's fix this problem once and for all. Not because the car can't stop exceptionally well when the factory calipers work, but to ensure that they work. Plus, they'll look amazing behind those wheels and I love the ease of swapping pads on Brembos.

CSL Trunk lid and Rear Diffuser. Rear diffuser is already purchased and on its way. Trunk is next. This trunk lid completes the lines of the car out back better than the US spec one does, IMO.

Intravee II iPod/iPhone hookup. This DICE Silverline DUO that I have is pure junk and needs to be swapped out in favor for the much, much more reliable Intravee unit.

....and that's it for the M3. It'll be lowered to the optimal ride height/rake for handling on the E46 platform. It'll have more pulling power with an airbox that'll give a throaty induction noise and an exhaust that'll bark. The sound system will be modernized for the latest consumer devices. The ride quality will be tight and forgiving with a higher level of grip around the turns. The brakes will be reliable and be at home on the street or track.

For the interior, I may or may not swap out the Nappa Black for the rarer Cinnamon interior that I genuinely like on some exterior colors, but am undecided on getting with the Carbon Black.

So whatcha think? This isn't cheap to do and it will happen after the car is paid off, with the KW's coming shortly, and the 100k service coming first and foremost.

The biggest mod will be the garage this car will be under cover in. I've already ordered the BMW showroom posters circa 2001-2006 to put in there.

We had a E46 M3 in for some dyno pulls yesterday and he was using the CSL airbox. What a gorgeous looking piece. Sounded great too!

Thank you guys. It's not going to happen overnight but its where it's going. First step is to catch up on maintenance with the 100k coming up. (I love BMW inline 6s).

Thinking the 100k and grabbing the KWs to start it off.
