wow why is pete up at 7am? he needs to be getting his sleep!

yeah its a big project, but hey, i've always liked big projects. sometimes i'm kinda like 'why am i messing with this totally decent, not too old, not too cheap car?' and kinda sorta wish i did all this work to an old GC wagon, but eh, you dont see many swapped bugeyes around so it should be pretty unique.

we're labelling all the bolts and putting them into bags, but yeah, so hopefully we wont have any left over, but we'll see... haha. what i'm worried about is the roughly 16,000 connectors that need to be plugged in, hope we nail all of those and dont forget any.

anyway, time to get outta bed, go pick up a hibachi and good food to grill, stop by the stealership, and head out to the garage for another fun filled day of bloody knuckles and coolant in my hair.

just checking in... we've got the wheels, suspension, heater core, power steering lines, etc. and the engine and tranny are ready to come out. we're about to hook up the hoist now, pull the engine crossmember and steering linkage, then drop the tranny out the bottom and lift the engine out the top.

Wow that new tranny is way bigger then I thought.

Sounds like fun, wish I knew more people on here so I could lend a hand. I never knew the swap was that complicated, good luck guys.

yeah, that steering wheel is total crap. I seriously spent 20 minutes trying to pull it from the car. I know I could have used a puller tool, but we didnt have it & I didnt feel like going to get it. after i had given up, pete sat down & had it out after 2 pulls. F pete.

each time a section of screws, nuts, or bolts gets removed, they are bagged & marked with their location.

the main chassis harness is about half-way ready to be removed. the bumpers & fenders have to come off to get to all the plugs & sensors so we can remove the entire harness. I also had to pick up a set of tamper resistant Torx bits to remove the sensitive airbag sensors in the bumper, dash, and "B" pillars. (btw: Snap-On rocks) next step for us is to remove the A/C fans & ducting, then the chassis harness will come out.

stay tuned.

Why do people climb Mt. Everest? Because they can! Doing swaps like this is like mad scientist type of work. Everyone gets off on different things. I know I like bugeyes more than the new 06/07 style. Maybe Bryan does too and would rather drive a bugeye STi rather than a new style.

instead of buying new cars all the time like a lot of kids, i like to continuously evolve mine... and with each step it becomes more of my creation and less of subaru's... although its not 100% logical to do it this way, you gotta understand that 'just buying an 07 sti' is completely different than what i'm doing.

anyway, motor and tranny are out, swapping exhaust manifold and going to pull the rest of the accessory crap out of the engine bay and clean it up so its worthy of accepting the shiny new engine. thats about it for the night, we're gonna crack open some beers and reward our hard work (play).
the fridge is full of burgers, hot dogs, chicken, and beer, and we've got a wood stove out back we're cooking with out back. its coooool.

annnd day 3, which concluded just hours ago...

here are some of my photos from the day...

Click Here for the FULL gallery from day 3

prepping engine for pulling

engine and tranny split on their own. anyone who's done a tranny or engine can appreciate that a LOT

ready for lift off

real easy since we dropped the crossmember and pulled the tranny off first

shenanigans

getting real bare inside and out

old and busted

new hotness!!

we also upgraded the fridge. burgers, dogs, chicken, and beer.

Click Here for the FULL gallery from day 3

swap will be resuming on monday evening, although visually it may not be too impressive in the next day or two's worth of work. lots of little stuff being changed over as well as pulling the old wiring harness and laying the new one. i'll still take plenty of photos though, you know me.
