thanks for all the comments, I plan to be taking a lot of photos of the entire process and updating here. we're also hoping to have a live web feed of the swap so if you're bored you can check in, haha.

all of the USDM motors from 04-06 were the same, they all have AVCS which is basically VVT, but its only on the intake side. it was rumored that the pistons were strengthened from 05 on but i havent seen anything concrete there.
in 07 they revised the ECU to make it far more advanced and powerful, and they also revised the head design making it more efficient to run cooler, and it no longer uses sodium filled valves since they say it is no longer necessary. the 07 motors have been making a bit more hp and a good amt more torque than previous STi motors. its not out of the ordinary to see an 07 STi motor make about 320 hp and 350 ft lbs with just exhaust and a tune.
the biggest reason i'm going with an STi motor is that the 2.5L and the AVCS combine to make much better low and midrange power, it just feels like a whole different animal than my 2.0L non-AVCS motor.

we're all learning and improving... i started by learning how to change the oil, then got helhp with a boost gauge, boost controller, and an uppipe... then exhaust... then it just went from there. you're just like a year or two off from all of this . i do photo editing and do freelance photography, and then i make like an extra $100k a year from TST . a motor swap has been in the works for quite a while, it just happens to all be coming together right now. i really havent touched the WRX much at all in the last 6+ months otherwise.

Climate control. You set it at the desired temp and let it do its thing. I cant say that I really use it to much.

Thats gonna be one mean setup Troll. Are you swapping in the entire 07 sti harness?

Any particular reason you chose this over one of them fancy Version 8 2.0's I've heard about?

And climate control FTW!

Can't wait to see this thing all done.

These have re-designed heads that flow as good as the heads they got in JDM land and the VF43 turbo has a ported wastegate so it holds boost better. turboback and reflash, nothing more, on the 07 motors is putting down in the range of like 310/370 wheel and holding it better than other years.

Basically subaru got it right in 07

its really a win win situation, where the 2.0L is high revving and real popular with drag racers while the 2.5L has more power down low... but both are totally badass.
i really like the feel of the 2.5L with the power down low so thats the direction i wanted to head. i was originally going to do the jdm 2.0L heads with a built 2.5L shortblock but it just got to be too expensive for a somewhat experimental hybrid setup.
so... i kinda wanted to go a little safer and more boring with a time-tested complete USDM STi 2.5L Engine, and it really sealed the deal when I found a very low mileage 2007, which is making even more power than previous years. i cant slap a massive turbo on it without some concern for the internals, but thats ok with me, it'll make plenty of power with the stock turbo or a medium sized upgrade.

the plan for the near future is:
-exhaust thats already on the car
-SSA FMIC and Perrin Intake that are already on the car
-walbro fuel pump thats already on the car
-Aquamist 2d alky injection that's been sitting in my room for a year
-Perrin uppipe that i already own
-TiAL 44mm EWG that i'll have to buy
-Enginuity tune

-stock VF43 turbo, stock injectors, stock turbo inlet... simple simple simple effective effective effective

Keeping it simple always works, and works for a while, effectively. Fortunately for you, your "keep it simple stupid" involves 2.5 liters, AVCS, and a strong, well-geared transmission. Mad jealous.

Is that your garage?? For some reason it doesn't look like it, but it's sooo clean and all laid out. Congrats on getting the space and time (and DD) to do this. Do you know who's doing the OS tune?

Keep us updated for sure.

Ooooo, anything exterior wise that sets the 07 apart? I can hang with an old STi, but I think this new one with F me up.

Ahhh, midrange grunt over top end power, me likes.

EDIT: does this new engine have variable valve goodness on the exhaust cam too?

Well if you need a hand with anything.
