New BMW 335i Coupe Twin Turbo

http://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/3/335icoupe/default

Has anyone looked at this car at all? I've been brainstorming on new cars for the last week, and this doesn't look half bad. BMW owners out there help me out...

Of course, I'm waiting like everyone else to see what exactly BMW has come up with for the 2008 M3 set to debut later this month in Paris.

The new e90s haven't done much for the e46 crowd, similarly to the e36 owners that don't care for the e46s. Since Chris Bangle took over, it seems as though BMW has taken a 180 in regards to making driver's cars.

Notice the interior of previous gen BMWs and the console actually is angled toward the driver. In the e90? Flat.

I'm teetering on putting a deposit down on the e92 M3 Coupe but they are REALLY going to have to wow me to do so. At this point they haven't.

I know how the e36 and e46 guys feel because people just don't like leaving the platform they are on already. Like my friend Jess is obsessed with 3000gts and stealths and she has 3 of them, she could've gotten a nice bmw or something but thats what she chose to do. I used to be stuck on certain platforms too but I grew out of it. New tech beats old tech and I will definately be getting the E92 M3....but just not the first year models.

I test drove it the other day, it seemed pretty comfy but that was all I could gather since it had 1 mile on the odometer they wouldn't let me thrash it.

*edit*

There are a couple of things I don't like about it but this is the same thing I don't like about regular E46 3 series and every 3 series including the M in the e36. I don't like the mpg needle and I also dislike the red colored part for the redline.

Car & Driver hit 0-60 in 4.9s, even though the published time is around 5.3s.
http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtest...-bmw-335i.html

Also, another magazine supposedly put it on a dyno and hit 275whp and 300wtq, making it quite underrated from the factory at 300hp/300tq.

This thing is probably like an Evo, reflash and exhaust will yield like another 75 hp

hmmmmmmmmmmm
Standing ¼-mile: 13.6 sec @ 105 mph
on a stock turbo car??? I REALLY want to see how these perform with a little work, and more importantly, how much you can throw at them.

I like them, maybe even better than the current M3's.

white exterior with black leather/dark wood....6 speed.

some side by side info with the M3
http://wheeltalk.fancal.net/?p=638

BTW, I priced out the one I want (I guess nav is standard in it) it came in at 48,xxx. The only options I think that weren't picked were sat. radio and the cold weather.

What's the CR and Con Rod material? That will tell you a ton about the power potential of this engine.

I just have a hunch that it has an achillies tendon somewhere. I also don't ever remember parts for BMWs ever being cheap.

Dinan stated that WITH VERY FEW MODS (I'm guessing intake/exhaust+reflash), they were able to obtain 400rwhp

I'm not sure what this means for a BMW, but in the domestic world it's relatively high compression for a turbo/supercharged pump gas car (the cobra is 8.2 for example) while the 335i is....10.2 :1 (I think this is correct)

I have been looking at this car as a replacement for my G35 for a while now...

White
Coral Red Leather
Alum trim
6 speed
Loaded

That would be my pick. Then some wheels, and perhaps some goodies to get the rwhp up above 300. I think i heard somewhere that it dynoed at 275rwhp in stock trim...so like someone said above, a chip, up-pipe/down-pipe, intake, exhaust could yeild some NICE gains.

The $50,000.00 sticker price is a 'bit' steep tho...you could buy a new 350z and a Twin Turbo Kit for that price! Can you say 400rwhp?

Well see...def a sick car!

I can't imagine the CR being that high for a turbo car, but looking at the dyno graphs, I suspected that it wasn't the good ol 8.5-9.0 CR that most turbo engines have. High compression ratio WILL hold this engine back and if 10.2 is right, that is very high for a turbo engine.

These are the types of engines that people get big HP out of, but then blow a piston in 6 months when the temps get hot from detonation. Tons of boost on high CR is a problem waiting to happen.

It is a 10.2:1 compression ratio.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged, intercooled 3.0-liter inline six loosely based on the engine currently found in the 3 Series, the 335i's engine is the first turbocharged gasoline BMW engine in decades. The turbo engine forgoes the aluminum-magnesium block found in the normally aspirated variants in lieu of an all-aluminum block. Direct injection, whereby the fuel is introduced into the combustion chambers rather than into the intake manifold, improves efficiency and performance by cooling the intake charge, allowing a high 10.2:1 compression ratio.

I'm very saddened by the fact that BMW has discontinued the M3. I guess this will have to do when I'm finally financially ready to buy a BMW. (Probably never at this rate)
