do u have it at school? and i had it read and they said it could be one of 4 things or somethin like that. the only one i remember was it being a misfire in one of the cylinders. the car occasionally goes into periods with real bad hesitation and on one of the mercedes forums a few people had the same problem and said it was just one of the coil packs gone bad and its like a $30 part and like 10 min job. i just dont wanna put out any money to not have it be whats wrong cuz im poor in college

Word i have a scanner too if you want it read, i work in Malvern...but anyways misfire is usually caused by bad plugs, wires, or coil pack/distributor...if its a common problem i'd say just grab a new coil pack, or all 3 if you haven't replaced them and they have some miles on them...should only help and not to expensive...

What is the code? Multi-cylinder misfire?

If that is the case, then there may be some cheaper alternatives before you put out the money for the coil-packs. The first thing would be to clear the codes and see if they come back. If they do, you can try new spark plugs (make sure they are gapped properly). The last resort would be to replace the coil-packs, if that is what other people have done.

Also, what octane does your car call for, and what octane do you use?

Worse comes to worse you have new spark plugs and new packs.

you should be able to take it to the dealer (or any other place like advanced auto parts) and they'll read the CEL codes for free. If not just disconnect your battery and hold down the break for a few seconds to reset your ecu and clear the CEL. Then just see if it comes on again.

^ FYI, some cars have different procedures to read/clear the codes without a reader. Although, disconnecting the battery overnight is a pretty standard way of doing it!
