main thing is if ur just starting, dont try to go to the heavy stuff first. work your way up slowly, and dont worry about how much other people are lifting..youll be impressing noone if you cant even get the bar up on the bench press.

I am NOT a personal trainer, sorry.

I would start out by riding the bike or using the eliptical as it is less strain on the body. Do this daily and for atleast 45 mins to keep the heart rate elevated for 30.

Weights should start out with light weight low rep 12-15 range to get the muscles used toworking out. It is not the main muscles you are worried about in this period it is the stabalizers that you can ruin. this will give you a nice base to work from.

As you get used to the wights you can start to increase them and introduce some power movements. For power in hitting its alot of trunk power. So your going to want a strong back, abs and legs. This means doing dead lifts, squats and some cleans for explosive power. As I said I am not a personal trainer but I did do extensive research and had a personal trainer for when I played ice hockey. I would recommend gettign someone who you feel is qualified to teach you the proper form for complex motions. Most people think they know the proper way to do a squat or a clean but in reality they just dont and end up hurting themselves and others if they pass on the info. Its all about form.
