Fazda's: Probe GTS- V6 turbo to 4cyl daily whore *fresh paint!!!! (post 97)

4/8/09

I've acquired a full parts car so I can finally get this thing back on the road.

The driveline will be nothing like it used to be, in fact it'll have a few less cylinders.

plans do still include a large turbo, but the priority right now is to get the car functioning and painted.

new poweplant:

it'll all make sense as i post updates on the progress.

11/08
i'm a slacker

the car isn't close to finished

a lot of plans have changed, but it'll still be finished and it'll still be boosted again, i just have a bit of work to do.

UPDATED 11/07 down a few posts!!!!

i'll copy my Probetalk.com post to start off

it's very brief descriptions of everything and i can go into more detail on the turbo install if anyone is interested...

for those of you that don't know much about a Probe:

The GTS model was a limited production model offered only in 97; that simply had the stripes, and some other subtle appearence things, the drivetrain is the same as a GT

the 93-97 Probe GT's are powered by a naturally aspirated 2.5 liter Mazda V6
putting down only 135ish to the wheels...

i do not have dyno numbers on my car yet..

enjoy!!!

In August of 2004, just after my 18th birthday I bought myself a $4300 present.

The car was overpriced, and sitting on a shady dealership lot.

However, I could not let a perfect 97 Probe GTS pass me by.

on August 19, 2004 I drove the car home.

It was perfect with no scratches, dents, or flaws. There was nothing out of place on the car. Even the original stereo was still there.

After a mazdaspeed sticker on the windshield a few weeks later i had this:

lowered with dropzone springs: March 2005

Polished MazdaVC : also March 2005

17" Adr wheels, Cavalier z24 lip, and Brembo Rotors: May 2005

Engine Replaced after thrown Rod new VC, Black IM: August 2005

November 2005: Apparently id bought a bad engine, and i pulled it again

April 2006: Turbo Install began...

July 2006: She's Fast:

video
http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y77...gAnch=imgAnch1

October 2006: After a summer of boosting and breaking stuff, the wheels were painted black... and i was driving the car regularly boosted.

TW hotpipes
XS t3/t4 to4e
40 mm external gate
RFL bov
apexi safcII
walbo 255
greddy turbo timer
autometer boost gauge
adjust. fpr
xs fmic
custom coldpipes
etc...

November 2006: Spark issues like you wouldn't believe, the car broke everytime i drove it...

December 1, 2006: I get a garage just for the Probe, and shes in it being fixed immediately

December 2006: Possum attacks my car...

and Today January 2007 She is Pretty, but far from my daily driver anymore...the daily car now is that audi...

i've had this car forever it seems...ive had at least five other cars while ive owned this one..

bone stock and perfect to: cut up, fast, and unreliable in two and a half years!

as you can probably tell i had a tonn of free time this evening, but enjoy!

well back from the dead here...

not much has changed about the car, but i took it to the track last night for the first time boosted

i managed a 13.5 at 108...i personally had only run a car down a track a few times in my life before last night, and that was the first time the car has been run, so im happy.

the stock replacement clutch is dying, it slipped on every run.

upgrading that, and doing a bit of "tuning" i should easily have a 12 second car

this is on 6 pounds of boost, and im itching to up it a bit and see what happens.

and it's a ford probe. and i love it.

ive got a low quality video somewhere i might upload

UPDATES:

Finally after upping the boost to 11 psi, i broke something major.

the trans.

ive decided to park the car for the winter and re-do nearly everything.

I think i might be in over my head but ill manage.

the major things are:

-New Trans
-Turbo Upgrade.
-Black interior swap, corbeau seats, wire tuck in the hatch...
-Major engine bay cleanup, remove unneccessary wires, light wiring tucking, powercoating etc...
-Repaint, it will stay red, however the stripes are going away.

anyway... here's some photos of the mess ive created as of today:

The crap ive gotten rid of so far under the hood:

Safc housing, wideband housing, turbotimer housing....in progress

updates as i get things accomplished! ill post some pics of right before she was parked soon as well, she looked better than ever

I began a complete tear down of my car in late october after the infmous third gear destruction from boost.

i decided that since i have no need to drive the car all winter and i'm not a broke student anymore that it was finally time to put the car together the way i want it to be. understanding fully that ill never get back what i put into this car.

unfortunately for me, the weather has been cold and miserable and ive been working 70 hours weekly lately so its taking much longer than expected, however im getting some things done slowly and projected completetion will be early spring 08', just in time for the 08' track season.

here we go, enjoy:

-A pair or corbeau seats replace the old, school bus feeling tan leather, this one is just there as a mock up as ill need to shim the seat brackets up so my short self can see. but i love them...

Extremely clean fuel rails now enclose a set of millenia s injectors, i could've kept going and plished them to a complete shine, but i want the engine to look clean and smooth, the "chrome bling" look isnt for me.

a complete wire tuck is well underway in the rear, i wanted all of the uneccessary wires removed, and the important ones tucked away safely. the rear interior will not go back in as a cage will be installed after a repspray of the red inside of the entire hatch area. tucking and elminiating wires is an extremely time and patience consuming venture, make sure you can handle it before you start.

The electronics looked haphazardly tossed into the dash before, this time around id like them to look as if they belong there.

The engine bays of these cars are littered with unnecessary wires, a light tuck and large elimination is well underway under the hood, before the new trans is installed the bay will also get a fresh coat of red paint. the stock KL will stay in place until it is pushed to its final limit, im hoping it survies the spring and summer. a bored block awaits a build for next year...

(obviously the turbo is off, the ebay charger will be replaced with a garrett
t3/t4...only because i got a good deal, not because i dont trust ebay parts!)

and this is the pile of junk that has lost its home on my car.... so far.

when all is said and done, im hoping to finally be satisfied with the car, many of you know and love it. but things can always be improved. the "rio pink" exterior will be resprayed as well, as to whether or not the stripes are returning im undecided.

all work on this car is completed by myself, or with the help of close friends. no performance shops, no trailers, no money from mommy and daddy. she's mine, my hard work....and even lacking common comforts such as ac, cruise control, reclining seats, comfortable suspension, mufflers, etc... the car is always daily driven when shes not broken.

enjoy, and ill keep you updated as things continue to progress!

Nice to see some "real" modding to a PGT. I had 2 of them years ago and always wanted to turbo one of them. Keep up the good work!

thanks for the kind words...

i love the fact that in this area there is nothing remotely close to the same as my car, the uniqueness of it keeps me going.

i'd like to say ill settle when i hit 400 at the wheels and a high 11 second slip, but i know how i am, and there will always be room for improvement.

i hope i get it done by sping, i realllllllllly hope so

I'd like to see the stripes stay, to keep the red/black theme going. Either way though, just like everybody else...i'll still love the probe. Hopefully by spring I'll be apart of the little denver turbo club lol

Best of luck finishing the project dude.... for some reason, I would like to work on one of these as well. As for the stripes, i'd say keep them. Adds just a little to the exterior
