I love headaches. This one especially. It feels like there is an ice pick being jammed in my eye, my head being crushed in a giant vice, and that my sinus' are completely closed. ****ing awesome.

I hear you guys but why do you feel inclined to prove your love to anyone else? What do they matter? Do you post videos of yourself having sex to prove you're good in bed? No, because it's a private matter.

Don't misunderstand too, I TOO feel inclined to do it, but the logical side of me screams wtf.

im pretty sure that i wish someone would take the keyboard from your overopinionated ass, we dont do it for other people. we do it for us. if your marriage is so meaningless you may either want to seek help, or get a divorce.

explain your logical side further please.

becky and i decided to move forward with our relationship. marriage and kids are being talked about. we're on the same page. we both decided owning a piece of this god forsaken country was more logical than a ring or wedding, both financially and for our relationship.

and marriage is proof of nothing... it is easily absolved

Defensive much? Since your panties are in a bunch over it, I guess I'll drop it after this post but it sounds like you're insecure about your choices to me.

Marina and I came to the same conclusion and thus we have a house.

As far as the logic is concerned, points for marriage:
* Kids: Creates stability. This is THE reason I will get married.
* Can't compel to testify against spouse: don't know if that's legit or not but it doesn't matter much to me since I don't intend to run a criminal empire.
* Tax on profits of sale of a house: If married you don't pay tax until you make more than $500K in profit. Single it is $250K. I'm in NO DANGER of making $250K profit on my house. Quite the opposite.

Points against marriage:
* Legally joined: This means that you are connected for good AND bad. Your spouse's legal problems, tax liabilities, medical bills, debts, and other crap are all basically your problem in one way or another. As single people, in almost every situation involving the government you are better off. You can choose when to represent yourself jointly by cosigning and avoid responsibility in other ****ty situations. Say my girl gets sick and something is messed up with her insurance. She accrues a $250K hospital bill (dirt simple to do). Normally govt assistance will kick in and help her out but as a married couple as long as someone is working we will be saddled with that bill the rest of our lives. Yes, I know this is a ****ty way to think of things and the bill is getting handled by tax payers and it's not the way to be, but wouldn't you like that option if you NEED it?
* Tax penalty: A lot of people think marriage offers a tax advantage. It's not, it's a penalty. The tax advantage is from filing jointly and that only applies to situations where one party works and one doesn't which brings down the total tax bracket and I'm pretty sure you don't need to be married to file jointly.
* People change: I might get fat(ter). I might lose a leg in a motorcycle accident or become paralyzed. She will decide to leave, make up some reason why and take half my stuff. It doesn't matter what kind of effort she put into it (the business, saving, etc).
* Lack of responsibility: How many people get married and the sex stops, people get fat, and everyone becomes drunks. Everyone thinks they can just do whatever they want. Spousal abuse sets in in some situations. Maybe a mild fear that the person can leave (easily) is good for a relationship.

If you really think about it, there's no reason a REAL committed relationship NEEDS marriage. If you REALLY love someone and they REALLY love you, you both know neither of you is going *anywhere*. The fact that the relationship persists without any kind of legal contract or any loss if one leaves the other demonstrates real love. I'd argue a relationship that lasts 40 years is more of a statement of love than getting married any day.

I'm sure there's more. It's a great happy idea but like I said, the logical side of me screams wtf. There's no *logical* advantages to doing it besides the warm and fuzzy feeling of engagement photos and wedding gifts.

while some of this may be true mark, some people like the tradition of things. Family get to gethers etc. Of course you could technically do this any time you want, but this is a time close ones to you can celebrate as well. A wedding doesn't have to a extravogent 100k+ money pit. It could be simple and cheap and just as fun. It could also be a way to meet more of the family that doesn't normally come out if you haven't done so already.

ALSO, some people like fuzzy feelings....damnit....

And you know what, your points make a whoooole lot of sense... Emotionally, marriage is awesome. But my logical side is always nipping at my heels. Marina and I actually set a loose date over the weekend which is what got me thinking about all of this. It's not an attack on any of your engagements. It's funny how many people have been pestering us to set a date and pump out babies. The only reason I will try to pump out babies is.. well have you seen the movie idiocracy? I just feel I should do my part ;)

I had to spend a couple hours fixing leaks in the RV too. Just found a couple more the other day where the roof joins the sidewall. Apparently winnebago has a "sealant manual" which tells you what needs resealed and when. They're very serious about sealant. Thankfully the house roof is issue free so far.
