Here we go, guys...lots of pictures here.

Myles IMed me last night to tell me these were coming in and to not post about it. Well, I did already because I didn't get to see his IMs until after I got home. So...I'll post the pics here and not on IWSTI until later on. I came home to these boxes:

Hypercoil 350lbs springs were in the small box:

Open up the big boxes:

Here's what was inside:

Inside the envelope is the manual, a spanner wrench, and two allen wrenches to adjust the rebound and compression on the dampers.

Here are the dampers and Vorshlag plates assembled and unwrapped:

AMS lightweight battery kit is now installed flat like its supposed to be. moved the secondary ground to the shelf where the battery sits. the exposed hole that was mentioned ending up having no threads to tighten the screw into, so i used a threaded hole next to the battery on the shelf. started right up after the ecu figured the base map out, haha. time to reset the clock and radio stations.

as far as weight difference...i'd venture a guess and say 10-15 lbs. i wouldn't call it a must-do mod for weight reduction, but every little bit helps.

a BIG THANK YOU to Godabob for all his time and help today. We were able to knock out:
-rotate tires
-lube steering rack bushings
-adjust front swaybar to 27mm
-install the carbing subframe

The ss lines were being a bitch on the Brembos, so we called it off and I'll get them done at AREA1320 one of these days. Tomorrow is the T2's and oil change.

Car is coming together

I love the sense of accomplishment from getting all this stuff I've wanted for quite some time (like the T2's for 2 years) onto the car. It's just finally coming together the exact way I've planned it all out. I'm excited about my car hobby again for the first time in awhile.

Best part about it is getting to meet new people along the way as I figure this car out more and more. I really want to thank Godabob again for all of his work today. He took a lot of time out of his schedule to help me out and it's extremely appreciated.

Final Impression of the BC Racing BR Series Coilovers:

I feel that these are a great budget coilover. Yup, I used the words great with budget together in one sentence. Over the past year, I've taken the heat for standing up for these things and quite frankly, I'd do it all over again. They perform well. They improve the ride quality. For $1000, what else do you want?

Clicks make a difference in ride quality and performance. It's apparent that this isn't a subjective feeling of improvement either. Countless people who use this coilover system happen to find similar settings on theirs for comfort and performance. Too many for it to be subjective. I've done back to back damper adjustment tests with unknowing passengers and asked them if they noticed changes. As little as two clicks and the responses have been affirmative.

I have not experienced any problems with them that could not be fixed by checking the spring preload, or lubing. I have had a great time on the backroads around here and had fun wringing out every last ounce of damper oil in them at the Tail of the Dragon with back to back to back to back runs through.

My advice with these is to know what you're getting into and know what your plans are with the car. For a budget autocross setup, these are the ticket. You will compete. These have gone to Nationals and with an amazing driver, have done very, very well. Countless autocrosses have been won or placed with these. They are not a mythical setup put together by a 3 fingered blind 10yr old in a far east basement.

Now, with that all said...there are downsides as one would expect in this price range. For me, it was namely two issues that I felt could be improved. The first one was strut travel. 122mm. Even the Bilstein PSS9 comes with 134mm and the AST/KW setup are over 160mm up front and 190mm plus out back. that's substantial for a street car. The second issue was the valving. It was apparent that over crazily repeating bumps that would make PennDOT blush, the valving couldn't keep up with the extreme movements of the suspension. Over the worst bumps and potholes, you'd get the rebound-induced bounce that would shoot you up in the stock seat like a trampoline at times. Chalk it up to running on basic Tokico-level shocks.

Lastly, I'd like to add something that I've come to realize after more years in this aftermarket game than I should have...namely, it's not really about the product itself all the time. Sometimes, its really more about the level of support and knowledge thats out there for the part. Josh at Import Image has done a fantastic job with keeping customers happy and if anyone is stuck on which budget setup to buy, that kind of service will make the decision for you that much easier.

So my final review on these coilovers considering price and level of ride quality and performance is a very solid 3.5 stars out of 5. That's compared to all the suspensions I've riden on from Stutgart to Tokyo to Detroit. Not a bad compromise.

I saw the camera there on Saturday but never saw you pick it up.

The install was an adventure but we got it done.

I want a review when you get a chance to beat on the car.

Initial Review:

Installation: Piece of cake, everything bolted up perfectly and we were done in 2.5 hours. On the front passenger side, you have to feed the camber bolt in reverse. I remembered reading about that, so it was easy. Didn't even have to readjust the X-Brace (thank God, i hate touching that thing).

Back to back comparison with the BCs vs. T2s. I took 78E into New Jersey from PA. Anyone who has ever done this will know what condition this road is in. It makes me laugh at how awful it is. On the way to Jersey, the BCs would hop and skip over some of the many undulations in the road. I'd hear crashing noises over the big bumps, and I'd get kickback in the steering wheel over other bumps. It was also fairly noisy inside the cabin because of the rough ashpalt transmiting vibration to the camber plates and chassis. Was it liveable? Yeah. Did I envy the yuppies in their BMW? Yeah.

On the way home with the T2s, this same stretch was muted. You still felt the bumps and knew what was going on, but not as much was transmited to the cabin. I don't know if its the Vorshlag plates or what, but the road noise wasn't as loud either. The tires didn't hop or skip over areas where the BCs had, which is obviously the damper working better. Now the one downside, for the first time in a year, I did notice bobblehead again. Pretty badly in some parts of this highway. I've already talked to Myles about it and I'm going to soften up the compression setting 1 click all around and see how that feels. I think this is the real beauty of the system, just that ability to adapt to so many situations.

So far so good. The T2s absorb bumps better, ride quieter, and have more of a solid feel to them behind the wheel. You just feel the quality. (and you damn well better after how much I spent on these things.) :P

Ok, time to adjust the compression and get more seat time.

Review of the Carbing front subframe:

Makes the car feel lower than it actually is, the front end is a lot smoother now over the road imperfections. Feels like the car kind of glides more now than before, especially when punching it out of an apex. Where the stock subframe feels light in the front end and a bit like a dog on a leash under WOT as the car claws out of the turn, this subframe turns that more into a guided missile. Reminds me of the C5 Vette I got a chance to push. Very high quality feel to the car now, well worth the price of admission.

Its nice to know all the work putting the subframe up was worth it.

Eventually I might go with the subframe.

Thank you

still a few parts laying around to complete the suspension (doubt that i'll bother with rear lateral links, etc.), but then that's it. slap on some new wheels and tires and get an alignment.
