question for you guys on deadlifts.....

do you use the normal grip or the hook grip (one hand reversed)? i don't do big weight and never tried the hook grip. Is it any better for results if you're not going big? I thought that was more for people that were trying to put up ridiculous amounts of weight.

any thoughts? what do you guys use??

All four of those are pretty self-explanatory. You want to do 4x15 seconds and only tilt/tuck/turn/etc. your head/neck until you feel it stretching, then hold the position for 15 seconds, relax, and repeat. Then move on to the next stretch.

You can do interior and scalene muscle stretches for your neck too but I personally don't prefer them as they're a little repetitive of the main ones above and have a tendency of making you lose your sense of 'center' which the other stretches help you gain.
thanks. this is the type of info i was looking for.

clarify?
hook grip is what oly lifters use (thumb inside, palm toward you) you grip the bar and wrap your thumb inside to help with grip. I think you mean mixed grip (one over one under)
i do mixed grip because in a normal grip the bar tends to want to "roll" out of your hands.
i can barely hold 400 reg grip but with mixed grip i've held 600+lbs

wuuuuuuuut... i been eating better, more breakfast... getting back into the habit of working out at the gym, two days a week now... going to be upping that since i'm focusing more on different sections... cheating by using the machines ... but its something till i get my body back into better shape.

anyway... apparently i dropped 17 lbs, according to the scale at the gym. I don't believe it... 165 to 148. 145 has been my average for years upon years, then i started working out 4 days a week and got up to 155 after months of working out. I only got to 165 by sitting on my ass all day and night working.

so... i still don't believe the weight loss... some is noticeable, but 17lbs???? I'm going to use the scale at the gym at work and see what it says... i'm very skeptical, i'd be happy to see 160 or high 150s... but i won't complain if i'm back to 148

Anyone ever do Bill Starr's 5x5. Im starting that this week. I hear a lot of good things about it with good gains. Im going to run this for 10 weeks then switch over to a power/hypertrophy split for another 8-10.

its ok to start with cardio.

I'm starting a new workout and diet tomorrow and moving off my "getting back into it" workout. The workout includes 10 minutes of cardio before lifting to warmup and 20 minutes after lifting

Moving this from another thread to here as it's more proper

Workout wise I am pretty inconsistent. I go 3-4 times a week and do 1-2 muscle groups each day, no cardio (again would help a lot).

Day 1: arms, chest
Day 2: shoulders, back
Day 3: legs, abs
Day 4: little bit of each (forearms, shrugs, etc. basically stuff i overlook the other days)

I have pretty good muscle structure so I just need to plan and commit and I'll be good. I wanted to be more or less in shape for the beach for the summer but I slacked
Any food/workout plan advices? Also when and what should I do supplement wise, if anything.

Any food/workout plan advices?
i'm following:

http://www.mensfitnessmagazine.co.uk...meal_plan.html along with the workout

http://www.mensfitnessmagazine.co.uk...e_workout.html

gonna give it 2-3 months starting tomorrow before switching to another plan depending on the results. I'm also going to be taking a tattoo break after my next session on the 18th so i can focus more on the gym.

i'm currently taking a week off after a session because sweating can mess up the ink and how it stays in the skin. so its one week off, two weeks on... i'm losing motivation for working out w/ that schedule.

hmm... so, i'm thinking about putting together a web program to track a person's progress at the gym. something that accepts multiple inputs of measurements (chest, weight, arms, etc) as well as the obvious exercise, reps, weights etc

I know we've got a bunch of casual lifters and some more "hardcore" lifters... from each of group, what would you like to see in this kind of program?

pretty much any kind of feature that would be suitable for keeping track of your workout and would be a benefit to either or both group.

trying to get a project plan put together before i start digging in and designing the application and programming it.

What supplements, if any, do you use. What does what and what works best. Spare me the "drink lots of water/proper diet" I know all of that already.

whey protein shake. whey is a type of protein which the body is able to absorb/use quickly

BCAA's, branched chain amino acids. if taken before a work out, the body will use these for energy. if taken after a workout, the amino acids will assist in the break down of proteins for use by the muscles.

creatine, allows muscles to absorb more water. usually increases the amount of weight you can lift, though that will decrease if you stop using it. i believe it also assists in sustaining a workout via that extra water in the muscles as well

got the whey.

I'll look into the BCAA's.

I've taken a NO2 creatine combo stuff last year but that made me get the ****s soooo bad.

I wouldn't ever start trying to give detailed advice on here since I'm sure it could be picked apart, but I really believe there's no substitude for a good solid diet of 'real food,' which of course can be supplemented with other stuff, which I really dont know much about beyond protien since I never had an interest in it.
Depends what your goals are though as to what exactly you should be putting into your body.

I'm one week into staying on a schedule at getting to the gym and getting in good workouts without any lapses... really hoping to keep this going for another couple weeks, by which time it will be more automatic. I'm in a good mental state... feeling good and looking forward to the next trip to the gym, so I'm optimistic that I'll keep it up, even though historically I'm a bit of a see-saw lifter, normally in 6 month cycles though.
