Anyone ever have to ship a car?

Sad to say that TriStateTuners will be going offline sometime around Oct. 15, 2024. After 20 years online, times have changed and its no secret that the forum's activity level has slowed to a crawl. Its been an incredible run with so many amazing friendships formed and community events held, plus all of the technical knowledge and entertainment shared online. I know I'm not the only one who has had both their personal and professional life impacted and improved significantly from this community, and I'm happy to have been a part of something so special. Thank you to so many people who volunteered to the community -- the entire moderating team, behind the scenes IT support, those who organized events, and everyone who contributed online to this unique local car community. I hope that many years after the prime of TST, many of you are still enjoying cars even if we are all "grown up" now. Please take the time to revisit your member journal and reminisce, or browse any other parts of the forum. Maybe reach out to an old friend or two and make plans to grab dinner and catch up. The timeline may change slightly but I wanted to get this notice up as quickly as possible to give everyone a bit of advance notice. Thanks for everything, TROLL

So my aunt has an old mercedes she wants to get rid of and says she will give to me however she will not allow me to fly over and drive it back. So I have to look for car transportaion somehow. Have any of you ever had to ship a car? Looking to do this as sheap as possible. I dont care wether its enclosed. or the car is particularly "babied". As long as it doesnt roll off the trailer and makes it here in one piece I'll be happy. The car is a 85-88 (not sure exact year) Mercedes 300D. I was told the brakes need work and the car hasnt been started in over 2 years. Car is located in Palo Alto, CA. (Burbs of San Francisco) Anyone know any good companies or have friends or hookups or anything of that nature?
