Weirdest Cat Ever

I noticed Steve (our cat) actually showing interest in his basket full of toys in the hallway today. I pulled out a toy to see if that was what he wanted, but he wasn't paying any mind to me. Then, he started making his way through a tiny little space and he wedged himself between his scratch post and the wall, mind you he's only 15 lbs! I finally moved the basket to see what he was trying to get behind it, and it was a little mouse! I ran and got my camera and when I came back to them he was chasing it around the bathroom, BUT when he got close to it, he would only smell it! I lived with a cat for 16 years of my life and she always caught mice and we would find them dead or find her carrying them around in her mouth or batting them around. But Steve would not do a thing to it, lol. Anyway, the whole point to this story is that I do not understand why he didn't do a thing to it, when he does this to his toy mouse....

It baffles me. I got a shot of the mouse, please ignore the dirty floor.
