why are people so rude when you can't help them?

i'm at work today and at around 12:30 i went out for lunch, i took my pager with me since i still have to return pages even on break ( wtf? ) i get a page from rehab asking me for a provolone boot ( it's a soft boot used for people with sores on their legs ) i was driving so i asked to call the lady back and she got all pissed off and said something along the lines of "fine its not like i have work to do" and hangs up on me. i rush back to work and check for the item, we don't have it. i call her back and let her know and she goes ape**** because another department told her that for sure i would have it. i was polite and explained that i dont have it in stock and it isn't in the computer so it must be from another department. then she tells ME that i have them and just dont want to run them up so she will come to get it herself and hangs up. i kind of laugh and call my boss to make sure we dont carry them, he confirms it and tells me what department does.

*BANG BANG BANG* the door is shaking like the god damned police are about to bust in, i open it and this buttertroll is standing in the doorway with a cart, she barges in and slams her cart around behind her knocking it into the shelves and starts looking for the boot that i dont have. i explain to her that i called my boss and he told me were to get the boot and she turns around with a huge grin; "OH SO NOW YOU KNOW WERE TO GET THEM? PRETTY CONVENIENT THAT YOU HAD NO IDEA WERE THEY CAME FROM UNTIL I CAME DOWN HERE ISN'T IT? GROW SOME BALLS" she storms out and i havn't heard anything back.

what just happened? i don't think im going to even bother reporting her to the nursing supervisor, i'm really confused right now.
