Can Somebody Explain to Me...

Could somebody explain to me whats up with the stretched tires and insane camber trend? From my section of the hobby the thing to do is to fit the fattest tire you can on a rim to get better traction. I cant imagine that some of these stretched tires are safe to drive on and wont pop off the bead on a hard turn. I heard it was to artificially stiffen the sidewall on a cheaper tire and then it jut caught on to look cool? With the camber is it just for looks, those cars cant handle good and dont look safe. So whats up with these trends?
