Amp cutting out?

Hey guys, I put a speaker system in my car like last year and now when I turn the volume up past a certain point the amp cuts in and out... What would cause this? I am assuming there is a short somewhere?

Either that or the amp is heating up too much so its shutting itself off.

Check your ground. If not your amp is clipping, it cannot handle the power therefore turn the gain back a hair and it will fix your problem.

Does it have enough power? with some systems at a certain point it's not getting enough juice, you might need a capacitor. Or like spend one said it might be hot but its more likely too be it is nt getting enough power.

help with amp

I have had this same problem...at first i thought it was the amp that sucked, so i got a new amp. I am not 100% on this, but i think your amp wants more power than what it is getting. if you don't already have a capacitor, i would recommend getting one. a couple other things you could try is to upgrade your wiring to a thicker wire gauge. remember if you choose to go this route to have the same gauge wire for grounding purposes. a more extreme option is to upgrade your electrical system a more powerful alternator and dual battery setup. again, these are all suggestions and the first thing i am going to try when i get around to it is switching out capacitors. i have a 1 farad cap installed now and i am going to switch it out with a 2.2f cap. i have had it sitting for quite some time now and i've just been lazy about it. good luck!!
