Brake noise?
Any ammount of pressure on the brake pedal makes the noise go away, and if I let off the pedal there is about a half a second of lag and then it comes back. I think it's coming from the brakes anyway but maybe it's just me hoping that it's not something more serious. Also if I pull on the e-brake even a little bit the noise goes away too. Brakes in my car are Hawk HPS which I hear are a bit loud but I didn't think I would hear stuff like this.

Are all the anti-squeal pieces back in? Did you bed the pads?
My brakes are doing similar things, I can feel it in the steering wheel and the pedals though... |

sounds like the new pads just need to be worn in a little.
The noise is probably them just barely touching the rotors. I'd say give them a little time and it will go away. Does it cause the car to noticeably roll less easily?

Nah car rolls the same. Put the brakes in about 1.5 months ago, and they didn't make the noise at first. The pads have a rep of being noisy, so this may just be one of their phases. I think it's starting to go away little by little.

Now it's changed. The rubbing went away, but when I am on the brakes at usual city pressure (not too hard not too soft) at around 20mph it starts to pop and slows down as speed drops. Applying more brake pressure makes the noise go away, applying very little brake pressure also makes it go away. The noise is present with the clutch in or out, in gear or out of gear. Sometimes also pops once when I am taking off from a light.
I definately think the issue is brake related, be it a seized caliper or a defective brake pad (keep in mind they've been on the car for 2 months topps).

That sounds even more like mine now, lol. Have you checked all the caliper bolts? It's possible you glazed the rotors, but I don't think it would make it "pop." Is there any sort of spring in the caliper that holds the pads up (or down) in the caliper? My car has extra springs to do that, and if they're inserted backwards, they clunk and make weird noises.

Did you use grease on the pad clips and caliper guides? I had popping sounds when I needed to regrease mine.

I dunno when I'll be there and if I'll be there. I have to wash the BMW, tire rotation, and tranny fluid check, and get gas. Then I may be going over to my grandparents for some dinner ****.

Failsauce...I'll talk to you later in the week about this, maybe you can just tell me where to grease and with what and I'll have at it on my own...is it ok to drive the car like this though?

You have HPS pads. You need to bed-in the pads. You'll prolly notice in anouther month a major thumping noise bc you "warped" your rotors bc you did not do this. http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_bedinstock.shtml
Also, dragging of the pads normal. When they are new this happens even more. Once they wear a little the noise will stop (as it did in your case) and everything is fine. Also did you use high temp grease on the caliper pins? |

i don't think its brake related at all. Im leaning towards the rear, bushings or a bolt loose.
