1998 Nissan Frontier - WACKY SPEEDOMETER

The odometer works fine but the speedo will either work perfect, not read at all, or say I am doing 70mph when I am really doing 35mph.

I understand the speedo sensor on the trans regularly goes bad but since my odometer seems to be working fine I don't think it is that.

Is there a "fix" out there for the speedometer? I'd rather not replace it because I am up to 202,500 miles and want to hit the quarter million mark
