Few shots from Iraq

Nothing special, just some random shots. Sorry no cool explosions or anything......

.50 caliber round versus a 5.56mm round

Old Glory!

a bird hanging out in a dead tree

my stupid self during a nice little dust storm

a little fountain memorial some unit before us made

Honestly, I kind of lost my motivation to take pictures out here. I took a ton in Afghanistan, but there isn't much to see here except sand and sun.

The bird shot is nice...

If you want something to shoot get some of your buddies and start playing with portrait work... the options are endless. You can just use available light, just try to shoot just after sunrise or just before sunset... which is called 'the golden hour' because it provides warm soft light which works really well for portraits. try sidelit stuff, backlit, etc. I love shooting people because it can be so dramatic and impacting, and the same person can photograph differently every time you shoot them.
Anyway, just an idea if you're looking for a mental workout. Stay safe out there...

Never realized how far the rotor blades on a Chinook drooped when not being held up via lift. Nice shots bro, thanks for your service.

Wow, those are great photos. I'm surprised you can just grab those and post em here. But the shots also have nice dynamics, you have a good eye.

There isn't much believe it or not, not in the Army anyway. They generally don't want people taking pictures of common sense things, like the layout of guard points, gates at FOBs, plus there are certain classified parts of weapons and vehicles, but you have to dig to get to them anyway. Technically I am wrong because there are tail numbers on some of those aircraft, namely the Chinooks, you aren't supposed to photograph them, but nobody really cares.

The Air Force on the other hand, they are very anal about what you photograph. I tried to get some cool night shots of the A-10s, but their guys were like "well you have to contact public affairs..........blah blah blah". However, if you catch them while the pilots are next to the planes, they are cool and will let you take pictures of whatever you want.

Up until recently, you couldn't photograph caskets but my commander (in 2006) asked me to get pictures anyway and somehow nobody thought anything of it.

These were taken after one of our CH-47s crashed, it was pretty sad to say the least. 10 guys died that night, it was awful, still kills me inside when I think about the kids of these men.

Someone said it already, it's a camel spider. And yes, they get huge! It's funny because I see them and always think of the face huggers from Aliens.

There's something very moving about a flag draped casket.

Obviously, never seeing one would be ideal, but, for a soldier who's time comes up...an American flag draped on a casket is one of the most regal things...a very honoring way to be laid to rest. RIP to your lost brothers.
