Anyone who bought a Subaru after 2004 jumped onto the bandwagon.
Unless your are someone who had a Lancer, WRX, Evolution, and then a WRX wagon....then your a bandwagon hopper.

What if your first new car out of college was an '04 and now you've got an '06 and you've been addicted to the WRC since Colin McRae was in a Suby?

I think he means for you to explain why you think that anyone who bought a wrx after 04 is just jumping on a bandwagon. Maybe people just waited for the sti to come out. Maybe they didn't know about these cars. Maybe there are alot of reasons and you actually have no reasoning what you are saying and are just trying to be a smartass .
Edit i am not trying to be mean here but people read this and think you are being serious and thats not cool. Just because someone bought a car after a certain yera doesn't mean anything.

Ok. Lets consider the following.
The WRX came out in 2002. During that time very few people knew about its existance. They have either seen before when in a few european-base magazines and television.
After a few months the WRX came to the main stream import community.
Many people weren't fans of the "bugeye" Impreza so it wasn't bought.
Late 2003/2004 came the front facsia change. This is when more people started to buy it. And when Mitsubishi brought the Evolution VIII to the US. This prompted Subaru to release the STi over here.
Unfortunately I don't have a sales demographics to aide this.

It was around these times (late 2004 - early 2005) that I personally began to see a growth in local area WRXs.
Now the WRX, STi, and Evolution are all "metoo" cars.

I don't know why, a worked bugeye just looks better to me than an '04+. Give a bugeye EDM projectors and a front mount and it looks mean as hell.

But that's off topic, the WRX's are everywhere! Just remember to wave.

I first saw and fell in love with the WRX in the summer of 01, when a friend of mine bought a cavalier at Roberts Chevy/Subaru/Honda in downingtown. I sat in the showroom WRX (having no idea what it even was) and knew I wanted one. Since then I went to every philly car show and pined over owning a WRX. I began to save for the wrx in 2002 while I was still in college. I joined clubWRX in winter 03 and then finally graduated, got a real job and bought my WRX in summer of 04...I really wanted a bugeye, but couldnt bring myself to buy a used WRX--i wanted it to be all mine.

Making a blanket statement like 'all 04+ people are posers' is exactly what I hate about the car scene these days...the "you can't join our club" elitest attitude that many of the so called old school tuners have. Share your hobby with others..dont hide it.

I agree wit you bro, but people are going to talk **** when they feel, its just ***. Anyways, its all in taste, I prefer the bug eye, you obviously like the blob eye wrx. All in all, its a wrx, who cares what year. If anything, subarus got "really" popular when the sti came out here.

I actually prefer the bugeye, but I couldnt find any new ones when I was ready to buy--and eventualy the blobeye grew on me. I love my car--but bugeyes were what first attracted me to the wrx.

The problem is that the WRX, when it first came out, was a drivers car. It was ugly and no one really liked it for its looks. It was a powerful little sedan, that had a ton of potential, but was out of reach financially of most younger "tuners".
Now that the prices have come down to where punk kids can afford them, the true enthusiast aspect of it has been watered down.

I have been a member of NASIOC and ClubWRX for 3 years now and have seen it go from "how do I make my car faster" to "which bodykit looks the best". Not that it is a bad thing, but there is no community anymore. I guess every scene has this happen.
Jeep owners know about community. They wave.

When the WRX first came out the "Subaru wave" was mandatory. If you saw another WRX, or even a 2.5RS, you waved. It made you feel good to be in that little "club".
After the "blobeye" came out, I saw this tradition starting to die out. New WRX owners started to compete against the ones they saw on the road, instead of feeling the closeness of being a WRX owner.

Just like WRXD. I couldn't swing a new 03 WRX so I had to get an 04 when they came out. Having been online I knew how to behave when I saw another WRX. Anyone over member 100000 on NASIOC doesn't get it.
Sorry to piss in someones cornflakes, but the Honda kids are now able to swing WRX's. That's just the way it goes. All we can do is keep waving and teaching the new generation proper etiquette.
