Radar Detector?

Ok, so for Christmas I put on the Valentine 1 Radar detector as one of the items. So I get home form work tongiht and my Mom shows me a few sites that really bad mouth it and say it isn't the best for the price and they mention 2 others. I was wondering if anyone had a Valentine 1 and how they liked it? or if you have heard about any other radar detectors that are good. Thanks guys!

escort 8500 x50, Excellent reviews & cheaper than the valentine one. i have one myself (the 8500 X50) and i can say that it has saved me many times - its also gone off for me when other cars that i was following had other brands & theres did not. I highly reccomend it.

Valentine is a great detector. Its tops, or near, in every catergory of detection from X to laser. The arrows that point to the radar source is what sets it apart from every other detector because no one else has them. The only negatives is that the arrows add $100 to the price.

In every test of detectors that I've seen, the passport 8500 usually comes in a very close second to the V1. The 8500 is even better at detecting certain sources of radar from a greater distance than the V1. Its very usuer friendly and more compact than the V1. Better yet it about $100 cheaper without sacrificing any performance. If you've never had the arrows, you can't miss them.

For the record, I have the 8500 and it saved my ass a buch of times. If your into the summer shore runs, its almost a necessity anymore.

Check out this site, one of the best:

<---Radar guru. i've had both the V1, Bel RX56 and the Escort X50 detectors and used them full use. and i can say the V1 is perfect for the heavy highway traveler and the escort x50 is good for the suburbs and highway. both are by far the best but there really ONLY 100% usful if your out of state OR on the turnpike like all the time

PA town police do NOT use radar. only State Troopers use Ka band radar. town cops us VASCAR to clock speeders.

detector ain't gonna do anything for ya bro in this state.

but if you still decided to fork up 3 bills, the X50 is the best choice.

Hey guys thanks for all of the info. I think I am going to stick with the valentine 1. It is just something about the arrows telling you where the police is comming from. Thanks for the input. And ho1ywars, I am interested in this detector...PM me with some details bro!

I have the K40 which is built in along with jammer as well as a V1. I must say I like both very much but I like the K40 better because its integrated with the car and it also tells you which direction the radar is coming from. If you ever do get caught they will pay for your ticket. (They have for me already)
I also go to canada a lot and since having a radar detector is illegal and punishable by a 10,000 dollar fine or jailtime (something like that) I like it
downside is it cost like 1500 beans.

get the v1, it's a great setup and once you get the arrows, you wonder how you got by without them.

---

Ray, you haven't seen my stealth mirror setup, have you? I have a v1 remote display installed in my rear view mirror. as for the legality of it, just shut it off.

I've had the opportunity to try out many detectors in the past. I like the V1 best for several reasons.

Even if you can argue it isn't the best at range or sensitivity....

Just knowing where the source is coming from hands down tops the others.

For example, driving around in Boston just about any radar detector is going to go crazy with false warnings. The V1 tells you how many things it detects and where they are coming from. Driving through the same roads to work everyday I sort of got a handle where they were coming from and how many were suppose to be in those areas.

I suppose cops are trained to hide in areas where false alarms might occur and being able to see that there was one extra warning in that area one particular day pretty much paid for the detector already in terms of ticket cost and insurance premiums.
