Eat This, Not That!

Eat This, Not That!

This website breaks down the 'best' and the 'worst' foods, restaurants, meals, beverages, etc. - including food you buy at the store, food you can get at a fast food restaurant, and food you can order at a real restaurant. What I like most however is the "Eat This, Not that!" section which will tell you what are the healthier alternatives at various places - For instance, at Sonic, the Sonic Burger is healthier than the Chicken Club Toaster Sandwich. It's a ton of information on how to make better choices for fast food meals, and also how to make better choices when you go food shopping. I find it very interesting, and actually pretty disturbing.

Just an example of their write-ups:

Quote:
1. The Worst Food in America
Outback Steakhouse Aussie Cheese Fries with Ranch Dressing

2,900 calories
182 g fat
240 g carbs

This weapon of mass construction is the caloric equivalent of eating 14 Krispy Kreme doughnuts, before your dinner arrives. Even if you split this "starter" with 3 friends, you'll have downed a meal's worth of calories.

Super Substitution: Both the Seared Ahi and the Shrimp on the Barbie offer a big dose of protein, which helps diminish hunger without putting you into calorie overload.

exactly. i dont think most people go to a fast food place and ask themselves which item is the healthiest and then make a decision based on that info. people go to fast food places to eat what they want and what they like, regardless of the health factor.

Not really, though. Fast food is popular because it's convenient - There were a few years when I'd leave at 7 in the morning and come home at 11 at night. Fast food was my only option because I only had maybe 30 minutes down time between school and after school activities - I wasn't eating at fast food places just to eat crap or just to pig out, I was eating at fast food because I had no other option if I wanted to be able to eat. So, knowing healthier options probably would've benefited me instead of me guessing and eating all the unhealthy crap when there were healthier choices.

The way I look at it.. noone is ever in subway, it's always deserted. I'm in, stomach full, and out in like seriously 15 minutes. Even wawa you can find something that isnt craptacular and horrible for you in less time it'd take to go through a drive thru.

Why Doug between your last post to me and implying I have "stones," I'm starting to think maybe you think I'm a man. Haha.

And I agree that Subway is healthier than most, but not necessarily healthy. The years I'm talking about for me, pre-driving days, my free time was the half hour drive to my horse's stable. My parents just lugged me through whatever drive-thru was cheap and en route - McDonald's, BK.. And I wish they hadn't, when there were other healthier options for similar prices.

hah. proverbial stones. I gotcha.. I was a fast food junkie for a good amount of time because my old job was right across from a wendys/arbys/kfc taco hut/mcdonalds.. so like during break id always go to one of them. ive been off fast food for like 8 or 9 months now and im glad i havent touched the crap. mcdonalds puts some crap in their food that supposidly makes you hungry again really fast.

outback isn't a fast food place though

i nearly threw up when i saw the number of calories... there isn't a single nutritional thing about those fries

no wonder americans are fat... no thought is put into the general publics diet. I've got friends who are over weight and just keep eating crap... every time i see them they're just eating fried whatever, candy... etc... then they wonder why they're getting bigger

just cook in bulk at night... or in the morning...

i made 5 chicken breasts and brown rice yesterday morning. chicken sits for 40 minutes in the oven, rice needs 30 total minutes... and you don't have to pay attention to either.

fast food sucks on so many levels (even though i get wendy's cravings every once in a while)

the only thing that sucks about my new diet is its boring taste wise... but thats my fault for not mixing in fresh herbs. I'm thinking of growing some on my balcony. maybe i'll stop off at the plant place by my apartment after work... then capone's for a beer...

Yeah.. I eat a lot of chicken and rice. wendys is apparently the more healthier choice to all the fast foods.. so i guess thats not that bad of a craving.
