09 WRXs spinning bearings, whats the deal?

Does anyone here know what the deal is with all these 09 wrxs spinning bearings in the engine? Is it some design flaw, or is it just ppl beating the piss out of them too quickly or something. My friend is seriously looking to buy one, and hes concerned about this.

Honestly? No idea.

Some chalk it up to a bad batch of bearings... other batch it up to PCV valve... others chalk it up to contaminants in the oil.

If the engine does blow, SOA replaces it at no charge. If I had the dough, I'd get a lightning red wrx - they are pure sex. I wouldn't worry about it too much to be honest. It doesn't seem to be happening as much as people make it to be.

A couple LGTs have gone down too.

SOA seems to be taking care of it with no problems. I know one guy got his entire Spec B replaced.

thats cause they're building them in indiana now instead of Japan, if you compare imprezas/foresters up to 2007 to Legacies the Legacies are all rust buckets but the imprezas and foresters are still in great shape. I dunno what were doing wrong but someone needs to look it over.

Yeah, I think you're onto something there. There has definitely been cost cutting on the cars too and I wonder if suppliers were changed for engine componentry to save some cost, leading to these issues.

Not so. I just walked out onto the lot to both a 09 WRX and STI. Both say 100% part content and assembly in Gunma Japan on the window sticker.

I was misinformed then, Last I had heard they were moving all models production for american vehicles to america. And since the new Impreza/Forester share a shortend Legacy chasis I assumed it were true. As for american built vs Japanese built there is a huge difference in rust resistance and longevity underneath my impreza and my girls legacy. Just speculation though.

wrong.. its the EJ255+257.

they are pieces of **** that should have never been made. Im sorry but its true. EJ20's have been around since the early 90's and never had this many issues as the 04-up dohc 2.5L's

Between the WRX board I BS on and the LGT board I annoy, there seems to not be too many issues with the new cars. Yes, there are a couple but everyone knows anytime a new bodystyle or engine debuts, there's always a few that tank.

toyota has had full control of subaru for a while now. seems toyotas quality and reliabilty is struggling now that they are a big boy, they see all the profit and are cuttin back big time.... not saying thats the whole reason, but definately part of it

another could be break in. or just the fact that its a forum. people love to complain when something goes wrong, but how many threads do you see everyday saying i love my subaru, i just drove from work to home and i loved every second of it? it doesnt happen. negativity on forums seems to make things worse then they may be.

there is also a waranty, and subaru already knows of this problem..

Toyota definately does NOT have full control of Subaru. They have 10% of Fuji Heavy Industries. They lease some space at the Laffyette Indiana plant and there is some collaboration between the two. But definately not ownership or full control. My general manager just told me that the new Toyota / Subaru sports car that we've been hearing about is going to be built By Subaru and badged Toyota. Kind of like the Saab-aru.

Sorry man. You're just wrong on this one. I'm logged in to the S.O.A. website right now. There would be a bulliten posted on something that big. My GM was just out in vegas for a meeting with the higher ups. The new legacy and outback CVTs are made by the same company that Nissan uses in the murano and altima etc. Toyota has a SMALL share in the stock and ZERO influence on design.I looked at your link. went from roughly 10% - 16% or 17% Hardly controlling interest.
