Cut/paste from another thread

I manage and oversee the purchasing department for an instrumentation/gauge company. We build product for John Deere, Harley Davidson, CAT, Mini Cooper, AGCO, Case, AM General, etc.

A few pics:

A few years ago, some customers were stating that our customer service area wasn't responding to phone calls quickly, so we started collecting data on the number of phone calls answered within 3 rings.

The ticker on the right keeps track of all phones answered within 3 rings. After one month of data collection, the 3 ring response was 96%. The customers that were complaining were generally calling during the lunch hour, were there is either 1 or 2 people out from 12-1 pm, which is where the numbers drop to 87-90%. The plasma screen on the left keeps track of new sales orders being entered and current sales orders that have been completed and scheduled to ship out that day.

Some photos in our testing area

A large portion of our product line is in the agriculture and construction industry. We build fuel sender units for companies such as John Deere, AGCO, Case, etc. so we have a contraption to simulate a tractor out in the field to test our fuel sender accuracy and reliability. Our new intellisensor units will provide an accurate fuel level readout regardless of the angle the tractor is situated (unlike cars, where the fuel level readout is inaccurate on an incline or decline).

Salt/fog and ultraviolet chamber. Since our products are in pretty much every possible environment, we test for corrosion on metal parts and fading in the sunlight for the dials and overlays.

Self-explanatory. Testing for our temp sender units.

For the customers that required sealed environmentally sealed products. If any Nikon guys want to test their weather sealing, let me know and I'll put it through the test

The Thermatron, used to test a wide range of items, such as our anti-fog coated crystals & lenses. Also used to bake some of the circuit assemblies.

New production cell for an upcoming product launch of one of CAT's new clusters (start of production begins in Decmeber)

One of the two SMT lines to build circuit assemblies

Newly purchased selective solder machines.

100-ton minster, used to punch out bezels, brackets, flanges, etc.

Automatic gauge line. With just two associates, this line does the same output as 8 associates that have to build manually.

7 molders for a wide range of plastic parts

One of our cluster production cells. This production cell has a mixture of automation and manual work. The hydraulics on the lift drops the cluster frame into a fixture where the associate installs the dials, overlay, pointer, circuit and polycarbonate overlay. The hydraulics then snaps the dials into place along with the rear frame. The associate moves the cluster into another fixture for calibration, then it moves to the vision system to ensure accuracy of the dial and pointer. As most car guys know, there's little room for error in instrumentation, so any non-conformance in the dial or pointer will result in a failure with our laser vision system.

This is the area where the Stewart Warner Performance gauges and products are built. My office is about 200' from this room.

The warehouse/cage where the SWP products are stored

Production cell where the Harley Davidson 5" tach-speedos are built. The 4" tach-speedo is built directly to the left (not in the image). We also built the 2" oil temp kits, 2-5/8" tach kits, ultra-shift lite, and several other products for Harley. They leave 1-2 Harleys for "testing" so we get to see the next-years models well in advance before the public does. One of the nice perks of the business.

Product audit table to random check quality throughout the building

Several of the machines in our development shop. It's nice having engineers and technicians available whenever I need something custom-fabbed.

That said, I don't have any good pics of where I work right now. But, imagine office space, thats pretty much it.

I'm a conductor at the Norfolk Southern Railroad in King of Prussia. I had more pics, but I can't get them to come up. Not my picture. Not sure if I was on the train either, but I did this job 2 weeks ago.

Port Richmond stone train crossing the Schyulkill River near Rt. 1.

I am a civil and structural engineer in NJ. I spend about 80% of my time out in the field doing various inspection work (bridges, cell phone towers, sign structures) and the other 20% stuck behind a desk. Here are a few of the jobs I just finished this year.

Me entering the water at the Route 52 bridge from Somers Point going into Ocean City (Beasley's point power plant in background)

Me in the water about to do a 45' dive.

Me at the top of a 225' cell phone tower in Northern Jersey (talk about a workout).

Me in the middle of a sign structure about 30' above the New Jersey turnpike.
