And so I resigned.....

So today is my last day at this job, I'm here now.

I've worked here for 3 years or so. When I landed this job, I was ecstatic. It was a wonderful opportunity, and my 1st big break into the "bigger" world of businesses. I thought I was going to retire from this company. In fact, those were still my thoughts up until about 8 months or so ago.

The company decided to sell, and go corporate, instead of staying family owned. It was 2 brothers in their late 60's early 70's who owned it, who's father owned it before them and so on. Once the corporate owners took over, the atmosphere here started to change. I no longer felt I had a career here.

And so the story goes, that about 4 months ago, I started a 2nd job to keep me busy since I only worked 3 days at my main job. 3 12hour shifts, but I was getting paid for 40hrs.

Well, just as my main job wanted to change my schedule, and I didn't feel like working there anymore, I was approached by the owner of my 2nd job, who offered me a promotion. PERFECT TIMING. Anyway, starting tomorrow, I will be a manager in my IT department. I'm thrilled. Much, much closer to home, and definitely much more money. And so with that news last week, I resigned from my current employer.

It's amazing how life can throw a curve ball at you, and yet, it all seems to work out in the end. It's a weird feeling because for that last 3 years, this job was my bread and butter. And I guess being young, I'm amazed I have gotten an even better opportunity. I guess after getting to know people for 3 years, it's kinda odd leaving. So in a strange way, I'll miss it, but I'll never look back.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to share my thoughts, cuz as I said, I'm excited and looking forward to where my new job and title will take me.

Feel free to bash me for such a long and boring story lol.

Congrats man... I wish I had a story like that or a job like that. Right now I am faced with a job that i know i don't want to do for the rest of ym life but don't have a clue what i really want to do. I was thinking about being a cop in Bucks somwhere but I always heard that the pay isn't that good.

Congrats Mark. I need to see about getting myself out into the real world. Kinda scared taking that big step. I'd love to work for a firm but I don't wanna take the step yet. LOL

I hear ya. I bounced around from quite a few jobs when I was right out of highschool before I landed the one I just resigned from. I had to work for what I had and it paid off when I got the job. And as I said, it was an awesome opportunity for me, and I honestly thought I'd retire from it. But things change.

I'm sure if you figure out what you wanna do in life, and pursue it, then it will work out for you.

if you want to be a cop do it, the pay isnt bad, i never seen one cop in my life struggle with money. you get good pay, benefits, awesome pension id imagine, retire early, get a free car gun and a computer lol.

and you could always move up and be a detective or do something exciting and join the swat team

My professional practice teacher was surprised with how many students in the class haven't worked for a firm yet. Glad I wasn't alone.

You are correct. Computers it is. I do I would say a little bit of everything lol. I completed A+ and CCNA training/certs, as well as some Microsoft training/certs. Troubleshooting, networking, hardware repairs, installation, maintenance etc.

It does take some schooling, but even then, you learn so much more once you are out in the field and actually using it and applying it in real world situations. If you can get your foot in the door of a good company, many will then pay for you to learn or go to training for other certifications or fields.
