My F150 that burned up in 2003
Stumbled across the pictures of my F150 that caught on fire in my driveway back in 2003. I was having ongoing electrical problems, coil packs failing and other ignition related problems. Every time I took it to the dealer, they said they fixed it and then another pack would fail. Finally I was coming home late on night, about 2:30am, and the truck began to run like crap again. I was only about a mile from my house, so I drove it home and proceeded to back into my driveway at which time I noticed a flicker of a flame between the hood and the windshield. I shut the truck off and called 911, grabbed my garden hose and tried to fight it. The fire co arrived and got it under control and put it out. Fire inspector came out and almost immediately determine it was an electrical by the way the wiring harness melted. The case just settled last month out of court. Ford Motor Company and the Dealer that serviced my truck the day it burned up agree to pay back my insurance co and me my deductible.

My buddy had his Ford Winstar catch on fire while his wife and son (1-2 yrs old) were entering a parking garage. Supposedly, they just recently had the power steering line fixed because it was leaking. The line runs over the manifold, I think. The guess is the dealership didn't do such a good job. Ultimately, it's just a bad design to run something so closely to the manifold.
Apparently, he his never buying a Ford, again.

The spark plug blowing out of a 5.4 liter block is common and ford will not recall them, instead they blame it on driver error. Fords suck. I have an '03 Super Duty that blew a head gasket at 40,000 miles and they wouldn't cover it under my extended warranty because it is a "work truck". Fords suck. |

I had two engineering companies and an accident investigatin company look at my truck and they all came up with different conclusions as to why my truck caught on fire. I never really got a definite answer. |
