I quit smoking but...

I still get the cravings really bad sometimes. I haven't had a smoke since the first week of December and I figured the cravings would've gone down by now. Alteast just a little.

I guess thats what I get for smoking since I was 16/17. I was such a dumbass for even starting.

What can I do to help? My mom quit also, but she has to rely on the stupid nicotine gum. I don't want to have any dependancy on nicotine or the habbit of smoking.

Feels really great not to spend almost $200 a month on smokes though.

I don't even remember why I started in the first place. I did enjoy it for a little while, but not only does it **** my system up. It makes a mess also, makes the car smell, leaves white ash everywhere so I have to dust more often and makes me smell like smoke.

Even though I've been of the habbit a few months now I can tell I can breath better.

My dad quit about 2-3 years ago after smoking for like 20+ years. He said he STILL gets cravings so... it looks like you in for the long haul, but.. hang in there buddy. I agree with trying something to chew on or something to keep your mind off of them when you would usually want one. Something like a straw or a candy cane or anything you can just chill with and suck on... Its worth a try anyways. Good luck.

damn man i dont know what its like to quit smoking but i do know what its like going on some hardcore diets lol and completely cutting out 70% of all types of foods is even hard. Just keep up the good work. I just think of how i used to be before my biking accident and thats what keeps me thriving to keep it up and work myself back to that point. In your case i guess you could think of how much longer this might help you live on this planet without problems caused by smoking and how much better shape it may help you been in for your job? i dont know much but just throwing some ideas out there to help you keep things on your mind when your cravings come into play.

Chewing Orbit gum works. I do it and it cut me back alot. Also always having those life saver mints in your mouth makes a difference. I tend to have a tooth pic in my mouth also here and there and that also works.

I smoked cigarettes for almost 5 years and then I quit over a year ago. I wore the patch for 2 weeks and then after that I just did it on my own. For me gum did help, but I guess what helped more than anything was having the right mindset. You just really have to want to do it for yourself.

I quit like 2 or 3 years ago, and I didn't have too many cravings. Up until I started to get really stressed out like lately, I've been having some really really bad cravings. I haven't broken down yet, but it's tough.

I might run out a cigar with my dad or something to make up for it. Least they're not addictive and it will give me somethin.

To who?

But yeah, it was hard as hell. I can't quit with help.

The only help I had was the people who told me I couldn't do it. The night I quit, I had said, "Man, I should quit smokin'. These things are killin me." and everyone laughed and said I couldn't do it. So I said, "Oh really?" crushed the pack with a couple cigs left in it, threw it in the bin and walked away. The first few days were hell, but it got better.

Yeah it was since December. I do remember now that it was really bad the first week, but it did get better.

It hits me bad when I'm working on the car sometimes. You know those moments you have to stand back and breath for a second. LoL.. Or after a good meal or just cruising.

I hear ya. That's when I grab a beer instead.

But seriously, a big thing for me for the first like half year of quitting was mint flavored toothpicks. I had packs of those all over the place and I would just be chewing them all day. Helped me a lot.
