My bank almost caused me alot of embarassment.

So I get out of work and I'm on my way to the grocery store when I get a call from my Uncle, im like great what does he want now and almost didnt answer. Well I did and it turns out they deactivated my debit/credit card for "fraudulent acts" against it. Like someone tried to steal money from me or something. Thank god my uncle called me to tell me or else I would have had 40 bucks of food and no way to pay for it.

Anyone know what could have caused this? I don't use my debit card to pay for stuff online, I use paypal.

Did you reply to one of those fake paypal emails? the ones saying you sent someone a payment, and asks for your sign in name and password on the website that looks like the real paypal site?

Nope I know all about those as well. I hardly even check my email! This is just a real pain cause I have to wait 3-5 days to get the new card, and then I have to activate it as well. And I have 5 dollars in my wallet, and I don't get out of work until my bank is closed.

they just had a thing on the new about atm scams.
they have a thing they put in front of where you insert your card, and it reads your atm card with your pin,
then they can use it

Have you checked your account for any purchases you didnt make? I work at Commerce and they close debit cards to reduce fraud all the time but never for no reason. I would check my account if I were you. Also, if you make a purchase thats a large dollar amount, the bank will contact you to verify you actually made the buy, if they cant speak to you they may close it as a precaution. And if you bank with Commerce you can go directly to the branch you opened the account at and have another debit card made for you one the spot. Hope this helps.

In May I got on the the boat to go on my honeymoon only to find that they deactivated my debit card. Hahaha. Talk about stressfull. I ended up calling my father to have him attack the bank and they opened it up so that I could withdraw from an ATM, but not use the debit card. Lucky for me there was an ATM on the ship.

Why did they lock it? Well, I bought $3k in electronics the day before I went on the cruise. Our wedding present to ourselves was a new digital camera and 2 Ipods and a couple other gadgets. Since we bought them on a weekend the card didn't lock until Monday when we were at sea!!!

Did you buy anything different on the credit/debit card? I know with Visa, if you have different buying patterns that are against the usual, a red flag goes up and deactivates your account until they can verify.

I bought 3 pairs of sneakers one time and my account got frozen. I called them up and they verified it was me, and told me that was the reason (I never bought shoes in the 2 years prior on a credit card).
