All seasons/RWD/snow
Anyone have any experience with this? I'm considering buying a second set of wheels for the winter so I don't have to steal my moms car every time it snows. Are all seasons sufficient for trekking through snow with a RWD vehicle or will I need snow tires? I don't want to buy all seasons and realize they're just as useless as summers...

skinnier is better in the snow. id just get a set of winter tires.. at least a set for the rear if moneys tight ! if your concerned about how bad winter tires look just throw them on a set of steelies and only put them on when people start bitching that snows coming this weekend or w/e. all seasons im sure are good in snow there made out of a compound that dosent get hard in the cold like your performance tires would so it would proably help a bit

I would invest in a set of winter tires if I were you. All-seasons are alright, but everyone should run snow/winter tires, even if you're AWD because of the tread compound its made out of. All-seasons get rock solid below 45 degree's while snow tires still stay pliable, which helps with important stuff like turn and emergency braking, even when there is no snow on the ground.
Go with Blizzaks and if you can't afford that, check out General Altimax Arctics. They are a great tire for the money!

IMHO Blizzaks are overhyped. Research Nokian if you want the best winter tire. We run their "All Season PLUS" tire, the WR G2 on my wifes Legacy. They are leaps & bounds better than the stock all-seasons in everything but road noise. Basically a snow tire you can run year round & get 30 to 40k miles out of.
here's a link. http://www.nokiantyres.com/tyre?id=1...e=Nokian+WR+G2 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Jack Williams,
STS www.tiresbyweb.com (kind of pricey on the website) Even if you pop them on in late fall an run them to late spring you'll be happy with them. My friend James (Boostedbogan) runs them year round on his 06 WRX Ltd. & he LOVES them. He does go in the gravel/dirt sometimes. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That must have been from tiresbyweb. Ours were a little over 170 a piece on the wifes Legacy. 225 50 17 That was with my discount at work, but we buy them from Jack Williams. Remember, these ARE a high performance all season with a snow tire traction and temperature rating. When a Blizzak will start melting off the wheel, the WR G2 is fine. Perfect tire for someone who drives a little bit to moderately agressively that doesn't want to flip tires/wheels & tires twice a year.

I drive my modded GTO all year. Snow has never been an issue for me. Get some GOOD all-seasons and you will be just fine. Conti DWS or Potenza 960AS are really good choices. I used the 960AS currently and plan to buy the DWS as my next set of tires next season when these are worn out.

I drove my vette through a few small storms and one serious storm on summer tires. Though I wouldn't recommend it, I did fine. I'd suggest some good winter tires like others have stated and you'll have little to worry about as long as you're not a complete idiot.

I have no idea how you did that. I got 100% stuck at the corner of my street two days after a storm last winter with RE01Rs. Judging by how much (lack of) traction these sumitomos have in the cold, they'll probably be even more worthless if it snows. |

My brothers car has them and they are awsome. Only thing I noticed was there was a little road noise and the sidewalls felt a bit softer durring agressive driving. But for the price and a 540 treatwear rating I can look the other way on that.

FYI, the cheapest snow tire is better in the snow than the most expensive all-season ;)

As long as it's just based on moving through snow & ice. I put super low speed rating Firestone Winterforce tires on my old 2.5RS. It was unstoppable in the bad stuff... mud too lol. Straight line stability & cornering were borderline non-existant.

I did fine last winter on some useless all-seasons. I now have broken-in Michelin Pilots and should be even more okay now. Unless it snows at least like once a week where you live, you don't and shouldn't need snow tires.

I am waiting to see how my continental DWS works out in the snow this year. I have been waiting just for this reason cause I want to test them in the snow and see how good they really are.
