Beater i30
A buddy of mine sold me his i30 that he's had for 6 years or so.
He swapped in a VLSD 5-speed, it was s/c for a little, then I helped him do a 3.5 swap about 4 years ago. The car has been through a lot.. stolen, crashed into a few times, etc. so it's a bit past it's prime. He was getting a new car, unloading it for a decent price, and I needed a car with my bonnie being down so I picked it up. I always kinda liked the car and I know a thing or two about VQs since doing the 3.5 swap so it's cool to have even all beat up. The car was too close to being decent to not fix it up a bit. I've got about $500 into it so far, which includes: home made IACV, VC gaskets, center cap, junkyard OEM starter, front bumper, 3/4 fogs, fender, inner fender, washer bottle, new Cefiro headlights, nicer leather with console (heated fronts), and paint for the bumper/fender. When I got it: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now: I still have to install the fogs, heated seat wiring, align things a bit better and do some major cleaning. The paint match isn't 100% but decent none the less. |

Here are a few more after shots with the fogs in and a new center tail:
Other than the pin stripe, the only major offenders are the drivers side doors: ![]() I'm praying I come across those doors for cheap, and I can get the pin stripe for free so that will come eventually. |

I guess I'll dust this off..
I've been DDing and toying with this car quite a bit since the last post. The exterior is beat but it's pretty fun to drive. The short list of things done since the last post is: 08 Altima VQ35 (has HR heads) with 3.0 timing.. had to drill/set the static cam timing, 09 Max upper intake and TB (bigger than the Alti's), Q45 MAF, Cattman headers, homemade 3" SS exhaust y-back, E-manage Ultimate, JIC coilovers, and 18" Style 5's redrilled with BBS centers. It managed a 13.6 @ 104 with a weak 2.27 60'. This with a rough tune and the variable intake not hooked up. ![]() ![]()

The ride height is perfect and I'm excited to see what you'll fab up for this car.

Little bit of an update from last year.
Aside from fixing a bunch of crap cause it's a hybridized/modded car from the 90s with 210k+ on it.. New OEM front bumper and paint, same color Maxima driver's side doors with trim/glass swapped over to replace the dented ones, and a new grill. |
