Stop light ticket, 3 points

I don't care about the $105 but how bad are the points and when do they reset? My insurance going up?

Unless there's a smarter thing to do, I'll just plead guilty and mail it in.

plead not guilty and go to court. if it's your first ticket, the judge may grant your no points but keep your money.

dress nice. shave. they ask you questions about life, you answer honestly and respectfully, and you see what happens.

Ok, but I'm written up with "crossing a clearly red light with warning for doing 49mph in a 35mph zone"

regardless. I would still go to court and say your apologies and plead your case. again, if its your first ticket.. the judge might let it slide a little bit, but its not guaranteed.

You always take traffic tickets to court. There's a good chance the judge or officer will reduce the charges to something that will have less points but there will still be a similar fine. I've had this happen with every one i've ever taken to court.

i also say go to court. Ive had the points for a careless driving ticket dropped, and the points for running a stop sign ticket dropped.
Like stated above, still paid the fine, but better to give it a shot instead of getting points on your license.

Go to court, hope the cop doesn't show. Speeding and a redlight... you probally aren't getting out of everything. There is info about points in the ask the law section, I belive its a sticky.

It takes a year to have 3 points deducted from your license and then another year to make it clean. Both years have to be point ticket free. You can get tickets, but they just can't have points on them. Thats from my understanding.

I'd plead not guilty and go to court, but that is only if you were not a dick to the cop.

This is a myth in my experience. I have been to court twice in the past year and neither time the actual ticketing officer showed up. If the judge allows it, they use a representative officer.

Is it your first offense?

I'm with everyone else. Go to court. Usually they are at least a little understanding if you take the time to show up.

Yes, first offense

I having trouble with the "not guilty" since It looks like I clearly rolled through the red.

It's just normal to claim the officer is blind?

They usually offer you a plea to a lesser charge in court. You don't have to do anything except agree to it or not. If you go to court you do have to pay court fees on top of whatever you end up pleaing to though... usually people go to court to try and lower the amount of points, which it sounds like you could probably accomplish.

Yep go to court and don't look like a douche bag. Wear a suit and tie and be respectful.

Every place is different. Some are very willing to work with you. Get a ticket in NYC or surrounding burrows and be prepared to get the judges foot clear up your ass, doesn't matter what you do there.

Most other places will let you speak with the prosecutor,

This sounds like a real easy one to get out of with just the fine. You could probably even get it dropped if you offer to donate to the PBA for the local cops.

Basically it's a big game and you got to know the rules in order to not get screwed.

You don't go to court to be confrontational, or to claim the officer is wrong. You can check off not guilty so that you can get to court, and then normally if its your first offense, you will plead guilty and they will drop some of the charges. Its not a big deal at all. Like everyone else said, just dress nice and be respectful. They are usually more lenient if its your first offense, too.

read the ticket... on the back it will tell you what to add on top of the fine. that is all you have to pay. If Im not mistaken, it's the fine + $7.

and for those who say they won't show up. I've been to court for tickets almost 25 times (yeah... lol) and they showed up EVERY SINGLE TIME.
