Got Bored, Bathroom Remodel...Newest Mod

SO I wasn't really bored, but my house had an outdated bathroom. Blue toilet, blue tub, blue single sink on toilet wall with linoleum vanity, white tile everywhere, pink paint. So I did a down to the stud strip and remodeled it. It turns out there is a plenty more expensive hobby than cars out there.

It's not completely done yet, but it's finally usable. The floor is 20"x20" porcelain cut down to 3" wide random length planks for a "hardwood" look. The tile is 3/4" glass mosaic.

As you enter, the throne light and the vanity wall backlighting, GFCI's also have LED's (the throne lights and backlighting are on the motion as stated above, for late night pisses and what not, possibly puking)

The "throne", with other lights on...

Vanity finally in! I still need to level the legs, but it's got running water at least...

I still need to put the door trim up too :barf:

Shower...I found a huge problem with the door, if I'm drunk and the shower door is left open, I'm running right in to the door.

And other pics

The motion dimmer controls the LED backlighting and the toilet pinhole recessed, the fan timer is for the panasonic exhaust fan, dimmer on that same device is for the shower lights, dimmer on the right is for the vanity/general lights (3 lights on ceiling above window wall)...

Looks great man. Remodeling my 1970 master bathroom is next on the list too.

Looks like something out of a resort/casino!

Very well done!

If I can ask, what did it end up running you?

i love this. a lot! i want one of those waterfall shower heads. and that sink!
the flooring is a really modern take on hardwood floor - was that your idea or is that how the brand markets the product?

also, I'm curious, how is that shower door in terms of leaks since it's rounded like that?

Looks great! Did you do the work yourself?

To much to keep clean, very modern and cool looking- I just question functionality. Ha, and if you add kids-

And someone please finish the trim around the door. :P

It was a bit over $12k in material.

The flooring was my idea, but I'm sure others have done it. I wanted a tile I could make look like hardwood and that's what I came up with. The shower door is fine with leaks, you have to spray the handheld on an angle outside the shower to have the water go out. Otherwise, if you just spray the handheld at the backwall, very little even splashes out.

I did everything except the rough-in for plumbing. I don't know why you would question the functionality though, it's in my master bathroom and everything is perfectly functional for adults. I wouldn't want the majority of that stuff for kids (from the actual opening of the shower door to the design of the door, to the shower/no tub, to the glass vanity and stainless cover plates). You are correct though, between the vanity, door, and the stainless cover plates it's a lot of cleaning, but whats 10 minutes extra of cleaning/week? It's just glass.

Also, it's kind of weird, but my hall bathroom had a walk in shower while the master bath had the tub. That's not functional to me, the master should have had the shower from the beginning while the hall bath had the tub. Obviously, that's getting corrected.

I actually do have a 26" LCD that is supposed to go in the bathroom, but when I went to hang it (above where the switches are), it just looks incredibly crowded. Also, the shower faces the other way, and it's uncomfortable for the neck while on the toilet. I wanted to make it work, I just don't see it panning out.

I just moved in 3 months ago, this bathroom has taken me a good 2 of it. Two years is the plan to fully remodel the house, working from the back of the house out.

Functionality was the wrong word if it is in your master. Cleaniness would be- Just like a black car, it looks incredible when it's new, but if not maintained properly can quickly turn to looking like crap.
The majority of doors we install look wonderful when we first install them, but nine out of ten households fail at cleaning them properly. Soap scum and hard water stains can destroy the glass if it's not cleaned almost of the daily (depending on use).
Being that you did on the labor, I'm sure you will take more pride in it then the majority of people who just call and pay for it. I really love the style and design though, it really does look good.

And remember everyone takes showers differently, what may not leak for one can leak for everyone else if the stall is installed incorrect. I spent 2 hours trying to please a homeowner yesterday. Some people just can't understand the flow and movement of water... but they expect air and a prayer to keep all droplets in the stall.
