Weapon Transportation

When transporting a registered gun, from your house to the gun range.

What is the proper way to do this?

obviously it can't be loaded. so where to store the gun, and where to store the ammo?

Are you in PA or NJ? and also are you transporting across state lines, or in-state?

PA- Rifles and shotguns may be carried in a vehicle as long as they are unloaded and transported in the trunk. Handguns, unless with a valid carry permit, must be unloaded and securely wrapped/cased when going to or from target practice.

NJ- The firearm must be unloaded and it is not directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the vehicle ie: glove box, center console, behind seat. The ammunition also must not directly be accessible from the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Case your weapon with it unloaded in your trunk, and keep your ammunition in the trunk as well.
